The Energy Policy Branch, within the Ministry of Energy and Resources, is seeking a results-oriented and analytical individual. This position requires the ability to identify and analyze key trends in climate change and energy and their implications in order to support government policy development and decision-making. This position provides the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future of Saskatchewan’s energy sector.
Reporting to the Director of Energy Economics, the Senior Policy Analyst position will provide leadership on the development and delivery of the Ministry’s economic, policy, and regulatory frameworks to support the economic and environmentally responsible development of Saskatchewan’s energy resources. Work will include conducting investment, economic and statistical analysis, preparing government documents (e.g., briefing notes, decision items, memos), and managing multi-faceted, high-priority projects from start to finish. This will require exceptional policy and analytical skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills, to engage effectively with senior decision makers, industry and other stakeholders.
It will be considered an asset for the candidate to have a strong understanding of and experience with greenhouse gas (GHG) emission management issues and regulations, both provincially and federally, intergovernmental affairs, oil and gas sector competitiveness, economic and financial analysis techniques, and emerging energy resource sectors. Experience with management, implementation and review of government programs will also be considered an asset.
Typically, the knowledge and skills needed for this position are obtained through the completion of a graduate degree in economics, public policy or related fields combined with experience in the energy and climate change sectors or government. An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
