We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Assistant Finance Director, Accounting & Reporting, to lead our financial accounting, compliance, and reporting operations. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial statements, internal controls, and regulatory compliance in both Canada, the U.S. and Australia. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where they can lead accounting teams and drive process excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting :

  • Lead the preparation and review of accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee internal and external financial reporting requirements, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Manage the external and internal audit processes, ensuring full compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures in accordance with evolving standards and organizational needs.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with CRA, U.S. and Australia filing obligations (including ASX).

Internal Controls & Compliance :

  • Design and enforce robust internal control systems across financial processes and reporting.
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities for control enhancements.
  • Research and interpret new accounting regulations, providing leadership on implementation and compliance.
  • Oversee the audit of accounts payable, company credit card programs, and asset capitalization.

Financial Systems & Process Optimization :

  • Lead initiatives for financial systems enhancements and automation, including ERP and CRM (e.g., Epicor, MS-Dynamics, Salesforce, Concur) integrations.
  • Leverage data analytics tools (e.g., Power Query, Excel) to improve reporting accuracy, transparency, and efficiency.
  • Maintain and optimize the chart of accounts, distribution rules, and documentation of workflows and system processes.

Accounting Operations Management :

  • Supervise day-to-day operations including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll recording, and tax filings (HST, etc.).
  • Monitor and manage monthly and year-end close processes to ensure timely reconciliations and reporting.
  • Support FP&A team with cash flow analysis, capital asset tracking, and operational cost allocations.

Collaboration & Leadership :

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with FP&A, Procurement, and other departments to align financial operations with strategic goals.
  • Provide support for board-level financial reporting and presentations as needed.

Qualifications

Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation is required.

Experience :

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in finance/accounting roles.
  • Experience in financial reporting, audit management, and internal controls.
  • Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. (especially Florida) financial compliance and regulatory environments.
  • Experience in contract manufacturing, fast-paced or high-growth environments preferred.
  • Strong systems knowledge including ERP (e.g., Epicor, MS Dynamics) and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Concur).

  • Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities, including Power Query and financial modeling.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines with precision.
  • A self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset and attention to detail.
