Position Summary

Process the registration of patients admitted to or treated in either an inpatient bed, emergency room, day surgery, endoscopy suite, or emergency managed clinic in an expedient, professional and courteous manner. Ensure all supporting electronic and hard copy documentation is complete and correct.

Required

  • Post-Secondary School Education in medical secretary/medical transcription or equivalent combination of education (minimum of grade 12) and relative working experience.
  • Must have demonstrated typing and other basic clerical skills including computer/word processing, e-mail and faxing experience.
  • Medical Terminology course completed through a recognized college.
  • For internal candidates, disciplinary and attendance records will be considered.

Duties

  • Registers patients visiting Emergency and Out-patients, including Same Day Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Lab and clinics.
  • Process repatriated patients to and from Quinte Health.
  • Arrange for non-urgent patient transfers.
  • Processes and completes required forms for all admissions, transfers, births and deaths.
  • Arranges for bookings of various clinics.
  • Arranges consult appointments as required.
  • Takes payments, issues receipts and reconciles cash.
  • Directs patients and visitors to nursing units and other departments.
  • Scans hardcopy patient documents into Hospital Information System.
  • Manages mail out and distribution of hardcopy documents.
  • Answers phone and manages calls regarding Patient Registration concerns, forwards calls as required.
  • Acquires Preferred Accommodation signatures from Inpatients and their families and records in Hospital Information System.
  • Provides remote registration support for Q7 and other sites as necessary.
  • Participates in improvement initiatives.
  • Assists in the orientation of new staff when required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
