The Future Energy Impact Assessment Leader is responsible for supporting the continued development of the Future Energy initiative and implementation of the Future Energy vision. This role focuses on identifying the nexus between Future Energy and the Impact Assessment & Permitting Market, leveraging our global experience to pursue and originate opportunities in Canada/US. This includes connecting our Canadian Impact Assessment teams to generate wider market impact that drives concerted growth of our Impact Assessment and Permitting businesses, with specific focus on being a primary leverage point for GHD’s Future Energy strategic intent. The goal is to lead the transition towards affordable, reliable, secure, and low-carbon energy, achieving lasting community benefits
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Health, Safety, and Environment: Monitor and review performance against health, safety, and environment (HSE) key performance indicators (KPIs) and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility. Take action to improve performance and to resolve noncompliance with the organization's HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions.
- Project Management: Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues.
- Client & Customer Management (External): Manage important client relationships with guidance from senior colleagues, or oversee relationship management with a group of more transactional clients and customers.
- Organizational Capability Building: Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions, including continuing professional development specified by professional or regulatory institutions, to build their professional capabilities. Provide informal training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
- Personal Capability Building: Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team. Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging external regulation and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Community of Practice Management: Participate in and contribute to a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to build own capability and develop innovative practice among colleagues.
- Analysis of "As Is" and "To Be": Document complex "as is" and "to be" processes and describe the changes required to migrate to the "to be" capability to record accurately the change required.
- Client Issue Diagnosis: Collate and conduct analysis of the tactical and operational information gathered through interviews and research to support the diagnosis of underlying client issues and problems and the design of single solutions.
- Environmental Risk Management: Oversee the environmental risk management processes, ensuring the organization's operations have minimal detrimental impact on the environment.
- Solutions Analysis: Identify and evaluate complex, expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.
- Environmental Impact Assessment: Coordinate specific elements of environmental impact assessments with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Climate Adaptation Strategy: Guide an operational area in the creation and implementation of highly complex climate adaptation strategies for vital or large-scale projects, preempting potential climate risks.
- Request for Bid Solicitation/Proposal/Tender Response: Gather information and resources, draft and complete proposals, and fulfill all process requirements (in terms of deadlines, documentation, etc.) in response to complex bid solicitations, request for proposal, and request for tender to create the best chance of being awarded the contract.
- Work with the Future Energy Leader, Market Leaders, Service Line Leaders, and Business Group Leaders to define opportunities, and to utilize the existing structure of the business to own and execute resulting projects. This candidate will increase market opportunities and expanded range of entry points for our broader Future Energy service offerings.,
- Work with a group of professionals across Canada focusing on decarbonization of the gaseous and liquid fuel networks, as well as the production of renewable electricity with a decarbonization focus. Specific focus areas include providing permitting and approvals support for energy infrastructure projects such as hydropower, wind and solar energy, energy storage, hydrogen, renewable natural gas, and carbon capture, utilization and storage, as well as any ancillary systems needed to activate these priority areas.
- Focus will be on collaborating with other Canadian and US Leaders across all GHD markets/sector, to implement the Future Energy strategy and roadmap in Canada, integrate within the Americas Future Energy Ambassadors team, and collaborate closely with the Enterprise-level Future Energy team.
- This position will also work to grow a team through strategic recruitment activities, with a specific focus on individuals with energy related permitting and approvals experience.
- Be accountable for organizational management to achieve agreed performance targets relating to growth of the market and ensuring GHD is ahead of client and market trends.
- Given the national and often multinational nature of the clients in this space, taps into the connected network to ensure alignment around client approach
- Builds on previous client relationships to provide opportunities and support development
- Actively participates in key client meetings
- Builds effective relationships with key existing clients, while also expanding the client base
- Actively participates in professional and/or industrial organizations to promote the GHD brand
- Promotes and collaborates in the development of innovative project delivery methods
- Supports development of external market and brand collateral, campaigns, thought leadership, and strategic external engagements to position GHD firmly at the leading edge of the Future Energy Market
- Collaborates with Global, North American and Regional Market Leaders, Key Client Managers, Service Line Leaders, Client Sector Leaders, and Operations to achieve excellent business outcomes
- Participates in the Future Energy connected network throughout GHD in the Americas, particularly within the Impact Assessment & Permitting service offering
Education
- Bachelor's Degree
What you bring to the team
- Managerial Experience: Experience supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve specific end results within limited timeframes
- Develops and mentors senior leadership and/or rising talent within the organization
- Works with project directors, managers, and teams to establish and improve Business Group requirements; interfaces heavily with the Impact Assessment & Permitting to identify skill sets required for delivery of Future Energy projects
- Attracts strategic hires to develop the team, especially in key areas where subject matter expertise is important to allow for GHD to take position in early entry strategies such as battery energy storage, pumped hydro energy storage, and low-carbon hydrogen.
- Provides strong ties in the Global Future Energy team and collaboration with Future Energy Leaders in the Americas to promote growth (including the Canadian Business Leadership Team).
- Pre-positions for key projects and clients, and develops opportunities
- Develops approaches for responses to RFPs, scope of work packages, budgets, and progress reports. Undertakes Project Director role on key projects, maintaining billable work in the 50% range.
- Drives project teams to provide successful and technically sound project deliveries to meet and exceed client and GHD requirements
- Adheres to GHD Management Systems for Safety, Integrity, Quality, and Environment
- Drives positive client interaction, as verified through client surveys
Salary range: $148,000 to $220,000
