About the role

OVERVIEW

Leading a large and multi-disciplinary team, the Manager will oversee a busy Emergency Department with greater than 106,000 visits per year. Reporting to the Director, Emergency Services and Diagnostic Imaging, the Manager, Emergency Services is responsible for the management of the Emergency Department ensuring patient care services are delivered consistently and with high quality around the clock. This is accomplished by providing patient centered, quality care, bringing out the best in people, managing resources effectively, building meaningful partnerships and inspiring innovation. This individual shows empathy to the experiences of the staff and is able to confidently support growth in professional roles and relationships. The Manager enables and leads care team members to coordinate and integrate services and encourages and leads ongoing performance improvement.

The Manager consistently uses best practices in: leadership, business management innovation, planning and goal setting, process enhancement and standardization, project and change management, team development and performance, communication and problem solving. The Manager manages financial and human resources to ensure optimal and accountable performance of the unit/ service areas. The manager shares responsibility with MGH practice leaders in ensuring a quality practice setting, based on evidence-supported clinical practice standards that inspire staff to achieve service excellence reflected by high levels of patient satisfaction within a culture of safety and learning.

EDUCATION

  • Masters level education from an accredited university, or a commitment to obtain.

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, administration or related discipline or equivalent.

  • Current registration with professional College/Association if applicable.

  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going learning and professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years related experience; with at least 2 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Experience and knowledge of labour and unionized employee relations.
  • Demonstrated excellent skills in collaboration, networking, relationship building and community

engagement required.

  • Demonstrated proven ability to engage staff in patient focused, evidence based high quality patient

care required.

  • Proven ability to engage staff in patient focused, evidence based high quality patient care required.
  • Strong leadership skills including demonstrated effectiveness with designing, planning, managing

projects and change management required.

  • Demonstrated business acumen required.
  • Sound knowledge of risk management and best practice related to patient and staff safety and

continuous quality improvement required.

  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of organizational functions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Working knowledge of clinical/administrative computer software as required.
  • Must have experience in Program Planning & Implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to forecast, plan and monitor the operating and capital equipment budget for areas under supervision.
