Job Summary

The DZ Tow Truck Driver is all about helping our customers safely get the equipment they need to get the job done right. Whether dropping off or picking up product, it’s important to really listen, respond quickly, and show we care. We want every customer to have a good experience so we do our best to understand what they need and make sure they feel looked after.

Responsibilities

  • Using a tow truck style DZ vehicle, transport and deliver heavy/medium equipment safely and explain their operations to customers where applicable.
  • Complete daily truck inspections at the start of the day to ensure a safe workday.
  • Ensure all loads are properly secured and loaded and unloaded in a safe manner within the time parameters given by the customer.
  • Assist customers in handling large items.
  • Follow all procedures related to the delivery and pick-up of products for customers.
  • Ensure deliveries and pick-ups are signed off by customers and maintain inventory control documents pertaining to the rental management system.
  • When picking up equipment, check for damages and immediately report any known damages to your Supervisor/Dispatch.
  • Ensure every customer is treated in a fair and consistent manner and immediately advise your Supervisor/Dispatch of any customer complaints.
  • Remain professional both in conduct and appearance.
  • Deliver at dock level using the double axle roll-off system for loading and unloading equipment.
  • Deliver at dock level or ground level with the tilt and load tow truck system.
  • Occasionally responsible for equipment recovery which may require a winch.
  • Complete all reports related to vehicle usage such as run sheets, inspection reports and maintenance.
  • Fill the vehicle up with fuel at the end of every day.
  • Report any damage or maintenance that has to be done on the vehicle to your Supervisor/Dispatch.
  • Check in with Dispatch/Supervisor for duties and/or activities that need to be completed when not on delivery or pick-up, which could include pre-loading, equipment checks, maintenance to vehicle, etc.
  • Responsible for regularly maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle, store/OSC, and areas outside the store/OSC.
  • Operate vehicle safely at all times and adhere to all Provincial, Company, and customer safety standards.
  • Health and Safety will always be the number one priority at Stephenson’s so every employee has the shared responsibility of keeping themselves and all others safe.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of commercial truck driving and delivery experience.
  • Valid DZ Class Driver’s License with clean Abstract.
  • Forklift and Heavy Equipment Operators licenses are assets.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be able to lift and load up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Competencies to include safe driving, ability to reverse a truck using mirrors only, and the ability to raise and lower the hydraulic bed. Delivery and pickup may be required for single pieces of equipment, skid steer loaders, multiple smaller scissor lifts, heating equipment, and/or propane.
  • Bona fide job requirement that you wear the following PPE safely and as per regulations:
  • Hard hat
  • Steel toed boots
  • High Vis vest or uniform
  • Safety glasses
