Purpose

Reporting directly to the Senior Mining Engineer, the core purpose of this role is to provide site-based (Fly-in/Fly-out) mine engineering functional support to Open Pit operationsin the areas ofshort-range planning, drill and blast, safety leadership, compiling mining data and reporting, and any additional requirements of the business plan.

Essential Duties Technical Demonstrates Technical And Conceptual Excellence With Open Pit Mining, Supports The Team And Plans To Deliver Departmental And Business Goals To Ensure The Value Of The Business Is Maintained Or Improved

  • Participate in the Mine Engineer team cross training and progression plan, rotating between short range planning and drill blast engineering or other opportunities as required.
  • Responsible for development and delivery of the short-range mine plan (two week rolling mine plan).
  • Responsible for timely delivery of blast pattern and timing designs, accessories inventory tracking and ordering.
  • Fragmentation analysis, data capture, processing, and communication.
  • Proficient in mine design, waste rock facility design.
  • Daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reporting as required.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with the Operations, Technical teams, and business partners to ensure efficient use of shared field resources, and personnel.
  • Conduct daily field checks, ensuring mine and drill plans are followed, and optimized.
  • Participate and provide input into optimization initiatives.
  • Review and update relevant procedures.

  • Maintains functional safety and awareness of emerging safety standards, ensuring alignment with industry.
  • Attending safety and pre-start meetings and communicate expectations with a focus of continued improvement of the Fatality Risk Management System and addressing concerns.

Leadership, People and Development Demonstrates leadership with the highest professional and ethical standards ensuring all actions are transparent and in accordance with company policies, standards, and values.

  • Monitors, directs, and manages mining contractors to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations as required.
  • Communicates positively, effectively and collaborates with team members to ensure all personnel understand relevant deliverables.
  • Upholds and follows the Newmont values at all times ensuring a positive team-based culture between employees, departments and contractors is maintained.
  • Leads and develops team members through mentoring, coaching, training and development of team members to continuously improve their knowledge, skills and relationship interactions.
  • Provides effective and timely communication.
  • Participates in risk management processes, e.g. JSEA and Fatality Risk Management, daily Pre start meetings.
  • Openly supports Company policy regardless of personal views.
  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Newmont’s values, Code of Conduct, and relevant Legislation.
  • Monitors own work performance against role requirement and receives and implements feedback to improve processes.

Training & Experience

Required and Desired qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience with open pit mining operations, underground considered an asset but is not required.
  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering/Applied Science degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Registered P.Eng. with EGBC or able to register in B.C.
  • Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., WorksafeBC guidelines, Mines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Legislation) is desired.
  • BC Mine Supervisor Certification considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Project Management considered an asset.
  • Demonstrates people leadership skills, as well as critical and strategic thinking.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of Products, Microsoft Teams, and One View reports.
  • Experience with MineSight, ShotPlus, Wipfrag is desired.
  • Experience with Vulcan, Deswik, and/or other software considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with MS Excel, MS Teams, Sharepoint and SAP considered an asset.\
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to excel in a team oriented environment.
  • Strong multi-tasking and proven ability to manage competing priorities based on business demands.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$91,800 - $122,400 with an additional 15% Short Term Incentive. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
