Yee Hong is one of the foremost providers of culturally appropriate senior care in the country, delivering high-quality resident experience and care to Chinese and other Asian seniors since 1994. The organization operates 805 long-term care beds and 308 seniors’ apartment units, with an additional 224 long-term care beds opening in a new home by June 2026. In addition, Yee Hong offers four campuses of managed care, a hospice residence, and a wide range of community-based senior and caregiver support services. Through this comprehensive network, the organization serves more than 15,000 individuals annually across the Greater Toronto Area.
Core Function:
Partnering with the Director of Human Resources and key business leader, the Total Rewards Leader will be instrumental in aligning total rewards initiatives with the organization’s short and long-term goals. The Total Rewards Lead will serve as a key strategic partner in supporting the organization's People strategy by designing and driving forward-thinking compensation, benefits, and recognition programs to attract, develop, sustain and retain skilled talent needed to deliver operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Compensation:
- Establish comprehensive compensation frameworks and incentive programs, that align with the organizational objectives.
- Conduct robust market analysis to inform pay strategies, conduct salary reviews, and expand on effective pay-for-performance methodologies.
- Ensure compensation strategies are competitive within the industry and equitable across various employee groups
- Address compensation challenges related to funding constraints and prioritize solutions that support workforce stability and satisfaction
- Develop and manage compensation strategies tailored to collective agreements within unionized environments.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to address compensation-related concerns, ensuring alignment with negotiated terms and fostering collaborative relationships between management and unions.
Operational Excellence:
- Ensure all total reward activities comply with policies, collective agreements, and applicable legislation
- Regularly review proprietary and public data sources, such as salary surveys, industry trend reports, and economic forecasts, to inform the organization's total rewards strategy.
- Provide actionable insights to leadership on emerging practices (e.g., flexible benefits, wellness initiatives) and employee experience enhancements, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of talent attraction and retention.
- Provide knowledge transfers to leaders, employees and other stakeholders on rewards
- Executes all activities associated with Total Rewards
- Administers and oversees employee entitlements, SUB plan, and leaves
Job Evaluations and Workforce Alignment:
- Lead systematic job evaluation processes to determine the relative value and complexity of positions within the organization.
- Utilize this framework to create clear career pathways, facilitate succession planning, and ensure alignment between employee roles and the organization’s strategic priorities.
Benefits/Registered Retirement and Pension Plans Administration:
- Oversee the administration of benefits, retirement savings plans and pension plan, ensuring compliance with plan policies and regulatory requirements while maximizing employee satisfaction.
- Provide financial forecasting and recommendations to optimize the sustainability and impact of these programs.
- Evaluate and implement employee benefits programs to meet diverse workforce needs, including health and wellness initiatives, leave policies, and voluntary benefits. Continuously evaluate program outcomes to ensure they remain competitive and aligned with employee expectations and organizational goals.
Total Rewards Forecasting, Costing and Recommendations:
- Conduct comprehensive market analyses to understand industry benchmarks for compensation, benefits, and total rewards.
- Collaborate with external consultants, vendors, and professional organizations to stay updated on market dynamics and regulatory changes. Use these insights to refine existing programs, propose innovative solutions, and ensure the organization’s offerings maintain a competitive edge in the talent marketplace.
- Prepare detailed costing scenarios to evaluate the financial implications of total rewards programs.
- Present data-driven recommendations to senior leadership, enabling informed decision-making that balances organizational goals with fiscal responsibilities in the near term and long term.
- Provide scenario-based analyses to anticipate future trends and challenges, ensuring the organization remains agile and financially sound. This includes identifying opportunities to optimize resources, mitigate risks, and align spending with strategic priorities.
Pay Equity Maintenance:
- Develop and maintain systems and processes to ensure pay equity across all levels and roles within the organization.
- Regularly audit compensation practices to identify and address disparities.
- Collaborate with leaders to implement policies that promote fairness and transparency in compensation decisions, while ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations. addressing pay disparities
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. CHRL and CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) certification is preferred.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in compensation, benefits, and total rewards management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Proven expertise in non-profit and/or long-term care environments is highly desirable.
- Deep understanding of legal compliance in compensation and benefits, union dynamics, and emerging trends in total rewards
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical capabilities, data-driven decision-making and attention to detail
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in use of computer technology and applications. Experience with Workday.
- Adaptable and resilient with a drive to implement effective and efficient solutions that make a positive impact.
- Recent satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screen (Police Check) required
- Ability to converse in Chinese an asset.
