About the role

We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer/Technologist to join our Engineering Department in Langley, BC. This full-time position is responsible for providing ongoing engineering support to the Manufacturing Department, with a focus on supporting work-in-progress (WIP) and Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) development, reporting to Director, Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support material and process development, including initial setup and troubleshooting of production processes; write process specifications as required.
  • Review customer engineering and specifications; provide impact analysis, estimate implementation costs, and manage configuration control.
  • Compile and maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing instructions for in-house products.
  • Prepare First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with AS9102.
  • Review and provide feedback on supplier manufacturing planning.
  • Assist with designing tools and develop fabrication plans for manufacturing and inspection needs.
  • Serve as liaison across departments, including shop floor, customers, and suppliers.
  • Develop and update training materials for production processes.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for production defects.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives targeting zero-defect manufacturing.

Qualifications & Competencies

Required:

  • Degree or Diploma in Aerospace Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline and/or relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • General knowledge of aircraft manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to manage projects with cross-functional teams.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of AS9100 and NADCAP standards.
  • Experience with configuration management.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection tools such as CMMs and PCMMs (e.g., FARO arms).
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, 5S, Kaizen, etc.).
  • Proficiency in problem-solving techniques such as 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagram (Ishikawa), used to identify root causes of production issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as laser cutting, waterjet, metal forming, fabrication methods, and machining.
