About the role

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Store Manager to organize and run our brand new STEMS Store in Surrey. The Store Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring customer satisfaction, managing inventory, and leading a team. This job will focus on ensuring the sales team meets its goals of efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Store Manager responsibilities will include hiring and training sales associates, monitoring inventory and ordering merchandise based on demand. This role will also research competitive products and analyze consumer behavior to ensure our store meets and exceeds client expectations.

Our ideal candidate will have retail manager skills with a sharp business mindset. You should also be skilled at organizing and solving problems. Interpersonal and mediation skills will also be very useful, since you’ll often be acting as a liaison between managers, employees and customers.

Ultimately, the duties of the Store Manager will be to make sure our Stems store operates effectively, and that we keep our customers happy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Team Supervision

  • Responsible for overseeing, training and motivating staff. The Store Manger will ensure employees are knowledgeable about products, sales, and customer service standards.
  • Monitor the performance of employees and help ensure they meet sales and service goals
  • Schedule shifts and delegate tasks efficiently to ensure smooth operation
  • Motivate and lead the team to meet sales targets and provide high-quality service

Customer Service

  • Greet customers, provide assistance in selecting flowers and arrangements, and offer product recommendations.
  • Ensure customer service standards are met and customer concerns are resolved efficiently
  • Offer guidance on care instructions for flowers and plants.
  • Handle customer complaints or inquiries in a professional and helpful manner.

Operations

  • Participate in weekly Store Manager Operations calls
  • Write and manage employee schedules
  • Help with stock organization, price tagging, and ensuring compliance with store policies and procedures.
  • Oversee opening and closing duties of the store; assigning the daily task lists
  • Ensure the store is clean, organized, and visually appealing.
  • Monitor and maintain the proper functioning of any store equipment, such as refrigeration units for fresh flowers.

Budgeting & Financial Management

  • Monitor the store’s budget, track expenses, and maintain financial records.
  • Ensure profitability by controlling costs, managing inventory, and optimizing sales.

Marketing & Community Engagement

  • Work with the Marketing team to Develop and execute marketing strategies such as social media promotions, local advertising, or seasonal sales.
  • Build relationships with local businesses, event planners, and customers to encourage repeat business and referrals.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing and the Pricing teams that all product pricing is accurate and mirrored in the store flyer

Inventory Management

  • Keep track of inventory levels and make orders to ensure the store has enough stock of fresh flowers, floral supplies, and other products.
  • Ensure proper storage of flowers and plants to maintain their freshness.

Sales Management

  • Assist with sales goals by encouraging up-selling and cross-selling of products.
  • Help create attractive store displays and participate in seasonal promotions or special events.
  • Work with vendors to place orders, plan, and promote products through demos; verify that discounts and promotions are reflected throughout the store
  • Oversee seasonal promotions and programs, inventory count, customer engagement events, etc.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Previous experience in retail management, preferably in a floral shop or related industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong Leadership and delegation abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with staff and customers
  • A proven team player and who is also team-focused
  • Strong problem solving and in-the-moment decision-making skills, process improvement, strategic planning, verbal communication, customer focus, management proficiency
  • Skilled at prioritizing tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Able to function well in a high-paced environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays as needed

Education and Experience:

  • Post Secondary Education preferred
  • Formal Floral training or experience preferred
  • A minimum of 4 years of demonstrable experience in a supervisory capacity at a retail store, or similar floral operation
  • Experience operating a point-of-sale systems
  • Competency using retail management software, such as online time and attendance and staff scheduling modules

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times and carry moderately heavy loads, such as stock items, supplies, or equipment
  • Able to bend, stoop, and kneel to inspect merchandise, shelves, and storage areas
