The Myrtle Philip Community Centre is a licensed childcare facility and has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Program Leader. Reporting to the Recreation Programmer, this position offers a variable schedule of up to 80 hours bi-weekly starting approximately August 10, 2025. Afterschool shifts are normally 2:00pm to 6:00pm Monday to Friday, and full day programming shifts are normally 8:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday. Preschool shifts are normally between 8:30am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday.
The Program Leader’s role is to create, implement and facilitate daily activities for preschool, after school care and summer camp programs for children aged 2.5 to 12 years old. The Program Leader will directly supervise the children to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
Qualified applicants are 19 years of age or older (Provincial childcare licensing requirement), have previous professional experience working with children in either an instructional or educational capacity such as Coach, Ski Instructor, Youth Leader, and possess a valid Responsible Adult course or 20 hours of coursework in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition. Candidates must be able to effectively listen, mediate and communicate with children of all ages and can obtain a valid First Aid Certificate, a Food Safe Level 1 Certificate and a BC Class 4 driver’s license.
The successful candidate has a calm, approachable and helpful demeanor; enjoys working with children and is an assertive leader who demonstrates excellent communication, mediation and listening skills; is confident to apply rules and regulations as needed; demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team and will create effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team environment.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check and Criminal Reference Check (Provincial childcare licensing requirement) and a satisfactory BC Class 5 driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment. The starting wage for this job position is $27.57.
