About the role

The Role

You will be responsible for the organisation, management, professional and clinical leadership and development of the NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL) Psychology Service and be the designated lead for the clinical governance of psychology services including setting, developing and ensuring maintenance of appropriate standards of psychological care.

You will be responsible for the management, leadership and motivation of specialist staff from a range of professional backgrounds within the service, including responsibility for use of budget, recruitment, retention, staff deployment, staff governance and the development of area-wide systems. This includes both the management of the Heads of speciality psychology services within NHSL, and the appropriate consultation with and devolving of responsibility to them.

You will provide professional clinical advice on psychological aspects of care and of policy development to NHSL and partner organisations and contributes to wider strategic planning and service development within Lanarkshire, particularly but not exclusively in relation to psychological matters.

There is also an expectation that such advice will be provided at a national level, and that the postholder will contribute to the development of applied psychology at this level. They will also play a strategic role in the selection, training and development of future psychology staff across the NHS in Scotland.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Clinical or counselling psychologist with HCPC registration.
  • Advanced, post-graduate doctoral level knowledge of psychology theory and clinical practice, including:Lifespan developmental psychologyModels of psychotherapyClinical psychometrics and neuropsychologyTwo or more distinct psychological therapies
  • Experience within a management context, including:Defining appropriate establishmentsGrading and recruitment proceduresPerformance and appraisal
  • Experience of managing a psychology service budget.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills at a senior level.
  • Experience of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified clinical/counselling psychologists and other professional groups.
  • Assessed experience as a qualified clinical or counselling psychologist with extensive NHS/professional management experience across multiple specialties/services.
  • Experience with diverse client groups across full clinical severity range in various care settings (outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient, residential).
  • Experience in teaching, training, and postgraduate-level clinical supervision.

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

It would be great if you also have

  • Post-doctoral training in leadership and/or management.
  • Experience in professional and strategic leadership, long-term strategic planning, and service development.
  • Record of publications in peer-reviewed or academic/professional journals and/or books.

This role will be based in Psychological Therapies within Netherton House

The working pattern for this role Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm
