PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the Manager of Weinberg Residence and in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Care Team, the Recreation Therapist plays a crucial role in evaluating the individual and group needs of residents. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs tailored to address the physical, cognitive, social, spiritual, and emotional needs of all residents. These programs are designed to meet the needs of our older adult population, taking into account their varying levels of care, diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and incorporating Jewish values and traditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete Recreation Therapy Assessments by conducting leisure interviews with Residents/Family/Caregiver to assess needs and create goals/objectives, document assessments, and complete care plans.
  • Complete RAI-MDS by reviewing participation statistics and progress notes, update/revise Resident care plans to meet relevant goals.
  • Complete ongoing assessments as needed.
  • Prepare Resident care conference notes by reviewing participation statistics and documentation.
  • Attend Resident care conference to give Resident/Family/Caregiver feedback on participation and goals.
  • Plan evidence-based therapeutic recreation interventions to meet Residents’ needs/goals.
  • Implement evidence-based therapeutic recreation interventions (group/one-to-one) that will meet the needs and goals of the Residents.
  • Document Resident participation.
  • Document progress notes when necessary.
  • Evaluate evidence-based interventions to ensure they meet Resident needs/goals.
  • Sets-up and organize furniture, space, and equipment for interventions.
  • Assist with Resident outings and special events.
  • Provide direction to designated volunteers; contact Volunteer Coordinator for additional volunteer resources as required; provide feedback on volunteer participation as relevant.
  • Ensure safety of residents during all tasks; report any adverse events or near-misses to Allied Health Manager immediately.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team on resident care/quality improvement projects.
  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings, trainings, and workshops as a representative of Weinberg when required.
  • Act as resource to LBHH senior management as well as to residents/families/caregivers and the community in general, by providing professional, specialized, current and innovative Therapeutic Recreation knowledge.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a two (2) year diploma in Recreation Therapy from a recognized College or Baccalaureate Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized University program supplemented by directly related experience involving therapeutic programming with residents in a geriatric environment. Current membership in BCTRA/CTRA required. Courses in dementia-care and knowledge of the Jewish culture is an asset.

WORK SCHEDULE: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 9 am to 5 pm Wednesday: 10 am - 6 pm

SALARY: $37.89 - $47.31
