Manitoba Parks is seeking a qualified individual to fill a seasonal Trades Helper position in Turtle Mountain Provincial Park-Boissevain.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence

  • Must be ready, willing and able to work evenings, weekends, statutory holidays as well as travel and work in other outlying areas within the Region

  • Must be physically able to perform the duties of this position which may include occasional lifting of heavy items, bending, reaching and standing for long periods of time and working in various types of outdoor conditions

  • Must be able to work with paints, solvents or chemicals and wear personal protective equipment as/when required.

  • Must hold current Manitoba Class 2 Water Treatment, Small System Water Distribution, and Wastewater Certifications or be willing and able to acquire and maintain certification within three (3) years of the employment start date. NOTE: Grade 12 education or GED diplomas is a pre-requisite for obtaining certification

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience performing and/or assisting with the tasks of one or more journeymen such as plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical related work and use of the associated journeyman tools
  • Experience performing grounds maintenance and operating grounds equipment i.e. mowing grass, trimming trees and conducting landscape work using tractors, gas powered trimmers and chainsaws
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously
  • Ability to adapt and learn new procedures
  • Experience supervising staff including providing training, guidance and direction

Desired:

  • Experience reading blue prints and or plan drawings
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of public water and wastewater systems
  • Knowledge of Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations

Duties:

Under the supervision of the Park Works Supervisor the incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of physical tasks, involving the use of light and heavy industrial equipment and hand tools related to maintenance, operations and construction activities within Turtle Mountain, William Lake and occasionally other Provincial Parks within the Region.
