As a Structural Civil Engineer at Vortex, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and technical quality of custom-built aquatic play structures, Elevations, and Waterslides. You will lead structural analysis, support design validation, ensure code compliance across projects in Quebec, the United States, and Europe, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate and deliver durable, safe, play equipment.

Key Responsibilities Structural Design and Analysis

  • Perform structural analysis for Towerslides, Elevations, and Play products using applicable building codes and standards in Quebec, the United States, and Europe.
  • Design structures using steel, stainless steel, concrete, and fiberglass materials.
  • Build 3D analytical models using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, and import models into structural analysis software Dlubal RFEM and RWIND.
  • Perform structural load calculations, including static, dynamic, and fatigue analysis. Accounting for environmental factors such as wind, snow, and seismic loads, based on local code requirements.
  • Apply professional engineer’s seal to structural plans as required for Quebec Projects.

Documentation And Compliance Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain clear, accurate technical documentation, including structural reports, material specifications, and calculation packages.
  • Develop and improve internal documentation standards to ensure consistent formatting, traceability, and alignment with engineering best practices.
  • Draft formal design specifications and detailed statements of work to guide external engineering consultants.
  • Document and track all design-related issues or non-conformities (NCRs) identified; coordinate with relevant teams to implement corrections and confirm that all changes meet applicable engineering codes and internal standards.

Collaboration and Technical Support

  • Review and interpret engineering reports from third-party consultants and ensure requirements are clearly translated to the drafting team.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance and procurement to assess suppliers and materials for structural integrity, durability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the drafting team in creating accurate shop drawings, installation details, and technical instructions.

Product Testing

  • Conduct on-site inspections and internal testing to validate new product designs and materials.
  • Evaluate components to ensure performance under required load conditions, environmental factors, and safety requirements.

Client Interaction

  • Participate in structural discussions with clients.
  • Assist in identifying structural risks and developing mitigation strategies for custom designs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Quebec; licensed in other Canadian provinces or in the United States is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on steel structures and concrete foundations.
  • Proven experience in delivering engineering projects from concept through to construction.

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficient with SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D modeling and drafting.
  • Skilled in the use of Dlubal RFEM for structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with RWIND or SAP2000 is considered a strong asset.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform static, dynamic, and fatigue loading analysis.
  • Familiar with structural engineering in manufacturing environments, including metalworking, welding, fatigue analysis, foundations, and anchors.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). An intermediate level of English is required.

Proficiency in English is required for this role as approximately 40% of the responsibilities involve regular communication with stakeholders based in the United States and Europe.
