ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge& Skills)

  • Current Certification of Competence as a Registered Practical Nurse with the Ontario College of Nurses.

  • RPN Diploma preferred.

  • Current BCLS certification.

  • 2 years hospital nursing experience within the past 3 years.

  • Experience with techniques of coaching patients to be independent with Activities of Daily Living.

  • Certificate in Gerontology

  • 1 year Geriatric experience within the past 3 years.

  • Catheterization, aseptic techniques.

  • Computer Skills – Intranet, Microsoft Office, Care Manager, STAR, Solcom, Risk Monitor Pro.

  • Practice level consistent with the full scope of practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Evidence of the successful, administration and management of blood & blood products

  • Evidence of the successful completion and/or practice in processing physician orders, administration of oral, subcutaneous, IM, suppository, aerosol and IV medications, venipuncture and IV management

  • Demonstrated adherence to the expectations of nursing practice at CKHA

  • Familiarity with MDS Chronic Care Assessment Tool preferred.

  • Fundamentals in Palliative Care preferred

  • Member of RPNAO preferred
