Position Overview

As People Partner, you will be a trusted advisor and relationship builder, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and legally compliant workplace aligned with YMCA HBB’s values-based culture. Reporting to the Manager, People Operations & Total Rewards, you’ll support leaders and employees with employee relations, performance and attendance management, dispute resolution, and policy interpretation. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and client groups to promote psychological safety and a consistent, people-first approach to talent management.

What You’ll Do

  • Business Partnership & Employee Relations: Partner with Association leaders and employees to support core people-related matters and talent management, including employee relations issues, performance concerns, investigations, terminations, leadership/employee coaching, and development priorities. Provide expert advice on employee relations and policy interpretation, while promoting inclusion, psychological safety, and consistent employee experience.
  • Investigations & Conflict Resolution: Leads comprehensive investigations into harassment, discrimination, and workplace misconduct, ensuring findings are thoroughly documented and appropriate actions are recommended. Provides conflict resolution and mediation services in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to support fair and timely outcomes.
  • Data Analysis & Operational Excellence: Manages internal communications, responds to inquiries, and contributes to policy development, compliance audits, and organizational change initiatives. Tracks and analyzes employee relations data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement. Collaborates across teams and supports operational projects to enhance the overall employee experience.

What You’ll Bring

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in HR operations, employee and/or labor relations.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation or actively working toward designation is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation, including the Human Rights Code, AODA, OHSA, WSIA, ESA, and related regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and managing employee complaints.
  • Proven ability to counsel leaders on employee relations best practices and workplace issue resolution.
  • Strong decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; resourceful and pragmatic under pressure.
  • Effective case management skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and build consensus in complex situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage high-volume workloads.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse teams and fostering inclusive workplace practices.
  • Skilled in handling sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • Access to reliable transportation in order travel to various work locations.

A Major Asset If

  • You have worked in non-profit, charitable, or public sector organizations.
  • You have a Master of Industrial Relations (MIR), or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation, or in the process of obtaining.
