The Opportunity

Deveraux Developments is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our finance team in Calgary. Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Accounting, this role reflects the evolving needs of our growing organization. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting accurate and timely financial reporting, budgeting, tax compliance, and internal controls across a portfolio of entities within the Deveraux Group of Companies. What you bring...

  • CPA designation and proven track record of success in financial leadership
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in public accounting
  • At least 2 years experience leading and mentoring high-performing teams
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting software (QuickBooks Desktop experience is an asset)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with a proactive and solution-oriented approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset
  • A desire to learn and grow, with a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence

You will...

  • Oversee all accounting operations of assigned entities within Deveraux Group of Companies, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements and management reporting within deadlines
  • Lead financial planning processes for assigned entities, including budgeting and forecasting
  • Monitor cash flows across entities and coordinate loan requests or repayments to support liquidity
  • Review and approve vendor payments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies
  • Review payroll submissions for accuracy and alignment with employee agreements and company policies
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the preparation and review of GST returns and corporate tax filings
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting and analysis to support business needs
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations for strategic decision-making
  • Lead finance initiatives focused on automation, process simplification, enhanced controls and documentation and future system conversions
  • Mentor and manage the finance team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
