SALARY: $33.94 - $39.07

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The non-registered technologist will support the daily operations of the medical laboratory and reports to the Manager of Laboratory Services. Working under the supervision of a certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), they assist with specimen preparation, basic testing procedures, and safe operation of laboratory equipment.

The scope of work is limited to tasks assigned and directly supervised by the MLT or designated charge technologist. This position plays a key role in ensuring patient safety, accurate documentation in the laboratory information system (LIS), quality assurance and effective communication with healthcare professionals. These efforts support diagnostic accuracy and contribute to the overall quality and efficiency of laboratory services, and compliance with Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (ACD) standards.

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:

  • In process of – Successful completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) program

  • In process of - Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)

  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions

  • Proven ability to work independently, demonstrating a high level of initiative\

  • Ability to exercise good judgement and application of practical and theoretical knowledge

  • Basic computer skills with the ability to operate Microsoft 365, Cerner, RL6, etc.

  • Strong interpersonal verbal and non-verbal communication skills

  • Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills

  • Evidence of ongoing continuing education

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety

  • Satisfactory attendance record as per the STEGH Attendance at Work Policy

  • Acceptable performance record that is aligned with STEGH values

WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:

  • Previous medical laboratory or healthcare experience is an asset

HOURS:

Must be able to meet the availability and non-availability requirements as outlined in the OPSEU Paramedical Collective Agreement.
