JOB SUMMARY

The Decision Support Analyst reports directly to the Manager of Decision Support and collaborates with members of the Windsor Regional leadership team as well as external stakeholders. This role is focused on providing expertise in data analysis, disseminating information, and conducting evaluations. The responsibilities include developing and maintaining systems and processes for data collection, extracting and merging data from various corporate sources, tracking performance indicators, performing analyses, preparing reports, and interpreting findings. The analyst will consult with the Decision Support Team, Manager, Director, senior leadership, directors, managers, staff, and physicians.

Additionally, the analyst will engage in the design and implementation of communication strategies aimed at enhancing decision support across the organization. This position involves collaboration with external partners and organizations for data validation and submissions and is consistent with other positions in the department where the role includes an assignment that supports specific program areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Delivers consultative and analytical expertise by integrating clinical, statistical, and financial data to facilitate evidence-based decision-making and performance monitoring across the organization.

  • Assists with designing and implementing a performance/quality improvement measures for their assigned clinical program(s) and collaborates with Clinical Teams regarding their information needs.

  • Manages data associated with required and requested reports (DAD, NACRS, Ministry reporting and Corporate indicators).

  • Required analyses may include trending, impact analysis and benchmarking as requested to support monthly utilization reporting and presentation to internal and external committees and agencies**.**

  • Participates as a member of project planning teams by providing decision support analysis to planning and ensuring data/evaluation components are addressed.

  • Extracts relevant data to identify possible cause-effect relationships, such as, outcomes to practice patterns, outcomes to workload information, outcomes to improvement initiatives.

  • Monitors, analyzes, and tracks key indicators.

  • Conducts specific drill-down analyses as needed and requested.

  • Prepares user-friendly reports and utilizes feedback for improvements.

  • Collects and links data from various sources such as IPORT, CIHI, 3M and other relevant databases.

  • Provides leadership regarding data requirements, anticipate information needs.

  • Works with Health Records, Finance and Information Services to develop creative ways to access and present information.

  • Works collaboratively with others to design, develop, implement, and maintain the reliability and integrity of the data sets utilized by for reporting purposes.

  • Works collaboratively with end-users to develop customized data formats that provide information to address specific clinical, financial and research questions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • A Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree in health sciences, computer science, engineering, business or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 2 years in a health care (hospital) environment (preferred).

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as an analyst (preferred).

  • A self-starter that has demonstrated that they work well in a team environment.

  • Advanced computer skills - use of Cerner (DA2, PIE), Business Intelligence (PowerBI, Tableau), SPSS, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and 3M Report Writer, Simulation Software (Simul8), Python, R and SQL.

  • Proven ability to undertake advanced statistical analysis and interpretation of all types of health data.

  • Knowledge of medical coding is an asset

  • Solid understanding of report writing for both ad hoc and regular reporting including data structure and standardization. As part of the application process a short assignment/presentation may be assigned to test candidate’s skills.

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and customer service.

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple requests simultaneously.

  • Good understanding of and sensitivity to Health Policy environment and the ability to assess impact on hospital operations.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to standardize processes to ensure consistent results.

  • An understanding of PHIPA is an asset**.**

  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning.

  • French Language proficiency an asset.
