Brief Job Description
The Business Development Manager develops and implements strategic and tactical plans to gain market share and new accounts, focus on previous account reactivation, and increase profitable revenue as well as maintain the business plan for the target markets of the given products.
Responsibilities
Account Management Responsibility
- Market Expansion: Identify and pursue new business opportunities with distributors, wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, hotels, and foodservice providers in the Lower Mainland Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Okanagan to increase market share of DFF product offerings
- Client Acquisition: Develop and execute strategies to acquire new clients, including cold calling, networking, attending industry events, and leveraging existing relationships.
- Sales Strategy: Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to develop targeted sales strategies, promotions, and campaigns tailored to the pork market in Western Canada.
- Market Analysis: Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive activities to inform business development strategies.
- Product Knowledge: Maintain a deep understanding of our pork products, processing methods, and value propositions to effectively communicate benefits to potential clients.
- Sales Targets: Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly sales targets and KPIs, including revenue growth and client acquisition metrics.
- Internal Customers: Coordinates and builds strong working relations with various internal departments including; Sales, Pricing, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Customer Service & Operations.
Sales Revenues and Margins
- Maintains product inventory and age by keeping current with market conditions, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors while maximizing margins (selling price).
- Establishes and adjusts selling prices by monitoring costs, competition, futures market, and current market conditions while maximizing margins.
- Constantly identifies customers or markets to sell to in order to maximize margins.
Market/ Product Knowledge and Intelligence
- Obtains an understanding of the production capabilities and numbers at each plant in order to have a better understanding of products to sell.
- Fully understands product specifications and attributes.
- Gathers market intelligence and competitive information.
- Obtains and analyzes competitor information, product offerings, markets and overall product performance.
- Analyzes and evaluates product positioning, channels, timing and other pertinent factors.
- Fosters business development by identifying and securing sales opportunities.
- Performs in-depth data analysis, profitability analysis and external vendor analysis to ensure profitability.
- Other duties as required.

- Increase customer base of DFF DSD customers
- New product growth % YOY
- Increase Market in Region share % YOY
Position Requirements & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in business development or sales, preferably in the meat processing, food distribution, or foodservice industry; experience with meat products is an asset.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Agriculture, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Skills:
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Knowledge of the meat industry, particularly pork, and food safety regulations.
- Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Attributes:
- Self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Location & Travel: Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Lower Mainland Vancouver or Fraser Valley area. Willingness to travel within Western Canada as needed.
- Valid Driver’s License: Required for regional travel.
- Experience with fresh / frozen meat products/ commodity sales an asset
- Excellent Microsoft office skills (In particular: Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication skills – written / spoken.
- Great interpersonal skills and a great leader.
- Ability to set goals and achieve them.
- Organized and ability to adhere to deadlines.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
- Typically works Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00pm with some weekend requirements.
- Will be expected to travel as needed to company subsidiaries, customers, and vendors.

Pay: From $75,000.00 per year
