About the role

Job Overview:

The Meat Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the meat department. This includes managing staff, ensuring product quality and safety, maintaining inventory, meeting sales targets, and providing excellent customer service. The Meat Manager plays a key role in maintaining the overall reputation of the store’s meat offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Merchandising: • Ensure meat displays are fully stocked, attractively presented, and rotated properly (FIFO). • Implement and maintain proper merchandising standards as per corporate guidelines. • Monitor shrink, waste, and markdowns to maintain profitability.

Leadership & Staff Management: • Lead, train, schedule, and motivate meat department employees. • Ensure team compliance with all food safety and occupational health & safety procedures. • Delegate tasks effectively to maintain productivity and quality.

Customer Service: • Assist customers with meat selections, special requests, and product knowledge. • Handle customer complaints or concerns in a professional manner.

Inventory & Ordering: • Maintain accurate inventory levels and place product orders based on demand. • Check incoming stock for accuracy, quality, and freshness. • Minimize out-of-stock items and overstock issues.

Compliance & Safety: • Enforce food handling and storage procedures according to health and safety regulations. • Keep all equipment, coolers, and prep areas clean and well-maintained.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a meat department (cutting and/or managing). • Strong leadership and communication skills. • Knowledge of food safety regulations and meat preparation techniques. • Physically able to lift heavy items and work in cold environments. • Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
