You are a highly skilled and motivated safety professional, who will ensure the highest standards of safety practices and compliance throughout the Shane Homes Group of Companies. You will demonstrate strong leadership qualities, a deep comprehension of the residential construction industry, and a commitment to fostering a safety-centric culture. This individual will play a crucial role in safeguarding the health and well-being of our employees, while possessing a profound impact on workplace culture.
Here's What Your Day-To-Day Could Look Like:
- The Corporate Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing and ensuring safety across all business units at Shane Homes, including the Shane Homes Head office, Single Family Construction, Multi-Family Construction, and Land Development.
- Develop, implement and continually refine safety policies and procedures in alignments with both national and local regulations, as well as industry’s best practices. This task involves researching current safety trends and integrating them into the company’s safety framework.
- As the champion of Safety, this role will be required to monitor compliance with safety protocols across all business units, conduct routine inspections, internal audits, and the evaluation of safety initiatives to ensure adherence and assess effectiveness.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards in both office and on-site environments is critical, while devising strategies to mitigate risks and ensure that the workforce is equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to address them proactively.
- Prepare detailed reports for the executive team and heads of business units, encapsulating safety metrics, incidents, compliance issues, and recommendations for improvement. Split accountability will be entrenched, fostering a partnership with unit heads to cultivate a unified approach to safety.
- In the event of an incident, this role will lead thorough investigations to ascertain root causes and implement corrective measures. This process will be critical in preventing future occurrences and promoting a proactive safety culture.
- Beyond workplace safety, the Corporate Safety Officer will work collaboratively with HR Manager to develop holistic health and wellness programs that promote employee well-being, enhancing overall morale and productivity.
- Ensure that all operations are compliant with local, provincial, and federal regulations concerning occupational health and safety, by staying up to date on legislative changes.
- Serve as an advocate for safety culture within the company, promoting collaboration and engagement at all levels. Encouraging employees to take ownership of safety practices will be essential in embedding a culture of safety throughout the organization.
We would love it if you had these too:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ working experience in a safety officer role, preferably in the construction or corporate sector.
- Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) are preferred. Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements at various jurisdictional levels.

- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both in writing and verbally.
- Excellent leadership skills and ability to self-motivate.
