Title: Before and After School Program Assistant (BAP Assistant)
Reports to: Regional Manager, YWCA Early Learning and Childcare
Job Classification: Term (school year), Part-time – 18-25 hours per week (Mon-Fri, depending on location) – eligible to be renewed the following school year
Salary: Based on NS ECE classification level
Location: Spryfield Location
Deadline: Until filled
Start Date: Fall 2025

Position Overview
- The BAP Program Assistant receives daily instruction from the Program Lead in the implementation of program plans, menu plans and delivery.
- Works in collaboration with the Program Lead to assist in the creation of daily programing plans and/or activities.
- Leads students in a variety of settings and assists in delivering a variety of indoor and outdoor games and activities.
General Competencies and Responsibilities
- Must be a team player with skills in supervision and caring for children/students in a large group setting.
- Has a professional attitude, positive leadership and effective communication skills.
- Must have culture awareness, sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Reliable, flexible and dependable.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Work in collaboration with monitoring and evaluation partners to complete self-assessments, program validation, and assurance of program standards.
- Communicate with students with respect and at their own individual and developmental level and set realistic behavior expectations following the YWCA Halifax NS-BAP Early Learning Behavior Guidance Policy.
- Ensure that students are supervised at all times and in accordance with YWCA policies and procedures in conjunction with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Department of Community Culture and Heritage standards and guidelines.
- Follow protocols regarding communications with parents, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism. Release students only to authorized people.
- Maintain a courteous and professional relationship with YWCA centre director, HRCE PP supervisor, co-workers, other employees, and families of the students.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education/ Child and Youth Studies, Community Recreation and /or extensive related experience in a childcare or recreation setting.
- Minimum 1 years’ experience working with children.
- Food Handling/Safety Certificate – or willing to obtain.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
- WHIMIS
- Child Abuse Record Check, Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Check.
