Full-Time PERMANENT Position (35 hours per week)

Reporting to the Indigenous Program Coordinator, the Indigenous Liaison is responsible for developing a proactive approach to connect Indigenous families, school, and community groups to support Indigenous students. The Indigenous Liaison will focus on building strong relationships and will work to create a collaborative, safe environment with the goal of enhancing student success.
Key activities will include:

Support effective communication with students, schools and communities
Connection with Indigenous students to encourage student achievement

Provide learning opportunities to support the revised Teacher Quality Standards as they relate to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit goals;
-
Establish proactive relationships with community and government groups that would support students and their families;

Visit homes when required to provide the link between the school and the home to support student success;

Facilitate/mediate meetings between students, families, school staff and relevant community partners;
-
Provide connections to post-secondary opportunities
-
Support students, teachers, and administrators in learning experiences that help establish foundational knowledge in support of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :
-
Relevant Diploma/Certificate from a recognized community college (i.e. Human Services, Early Childhood Education)
-
Minimum of three (3) years successful experience working outreach with an at-risk population.

Strong Indigenous perspective with knowledge of and/or experience of with local communities.

Proven experience working with Indigenous communities with first-hand knowledge of Indigenous cultures, practices, and issues.

Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
