Non-Profit Senior Financial Controller – Full Time | Surrey, BC (Hybrid Flexible)
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Financial Controller to join a mission-driven organization with $9M+ in annual revenue. This leadership role is pivotal in driving financial stewardship, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with funders and regulatory bodies.

What you’ll do:

Lead full-cycle accounting, payroll, and financial operations

Develop and monitor a $9M+ organizational budget
in collaboration with leadership

Prepare timely, accurate financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annual)

Oversee financial forecasting, variance analysis, and audit coordination
-
Supervise an investment portfolio managed by an external broker
-
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
, Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO),
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
, and funder-specific requirements

Oversee financial reporting for Housing, Health Authority, and other major funders
-
Manage grant tracking and ensure compliance with donor restrictions
-
Maintain robust internal controls and policies to protect organizational assets
-
Serve as a key financial advisor to the CEO and leadership team
-
Provide insight for funding proposals, grant applications, and business cases
-
Collaborate across departments on financial planning, budgeting, and operational strategy
-
Foster a culture of transparency and financial literacy across the organization
-
Prepare and assist in the presentation of financial reports to the Board and Finance Committee

Act as a professional point of contact with auditors, banks, and external stakeholders
-
Lead, coach, and support the development and acquisition of a high-performing Finance team
-
Build a collaborative, respectful, and accountable team environment

Ensure succession planning and leadership development within the Finance team
What you bring:

Commitment to social impact and integrity

CPA designation with a degree in a relevant field

Minimum 2-5 years of progressive financial leadership experience

Experience leading teams

Prior experience in a non-profit or charitable environment strongly preferred

Deep experience with payroll

Strong understanding of GAAP
, ASNPO
, and regulatory compliance

Proficient in QuickBooks
Online and Microsoft 365; familiarity with CRMs is an asset

Excellent communicator who can translate financials for non-financial audiences

Proven ability to lead system improvements and strengthen internal controls

Strategic thinker with high integrity and a commitment to social impact
What we offer:

Competitive compensation with a salary range of $82,000 to $90,000
