Position Summary

Medical Laboratory Technologist, Genetics Laboratory
Your goal in this position is to perform laboratory tests and procedures in accordance with departmental and divisional policies. You will perform laboratory procedures in Genetics Laboratory with accuracy and precision. You will perform preventive maintenance of equipment. You have the ability to recognize problems and take appropriate action. You are computer proficient, have excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and display a high degree of professionalism. You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity and competence. You will provide excellent patient and family-driven care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Perform established Cytogeneitcs, Cytogenomics and/or Molecular Genetics laboratory procedures as required Review, record, accurately report and checks test results in a timely manner
  • Recognizes abnormal or unusual lab results and takes appropriate action according to protocol
  • Identifies technical or quality process problems and takes appropriate corrective action
  • Understands and participates in quality control, quality assurance and the quality management system
  • Understands, follows and ensures policies/processes/procedures are in compliance with laboratory accreditation requirements
  • Works safely in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Member of CMLTO or eligible for registration in Genetics (Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics)
  • Experience in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics an asset
  • Bilingualism in French/ English an asset
