About the role
Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Lifestyle Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the delivery of lifestyle and recreational programs and activities for residents in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, as well as legislative requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Facilitate activities and exercise programs.
Assist in the planning of recreational activities relating to emotional, physical, intellectual, spiritual and social needs.
Document participation of the residents at each program.
Assist in the creation of the monthly calendar and newsletter as required.
Assist in the creation of posters and notices regarding activities and programs.
Supervise outings and assist with loading/unloading the bus, where required.
Assist with all special events.
Maintain the organization of the areas in which activities are held.
Assist with supervising and delegating tasks to volunteers.
Assist with external activities providers were required.
Ensure efficient delivery and safety of programs.
Strive to maintain a fun, friendly, inclusive and caring atmosphere.
Encourage residents to participate and engage in programming.
Complete one-on-one visits with residents.
Assist other departments when necessary.
Maintain positive relations, be courteous and respectful to residents and co-workers.
Provide opportunity for residents/families to offer feedback about activity programming.
Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
Role model and provide leadership for safe work practices.
Promote teamwork and team spirit, in line with the organizational mission, vision, and values.
Provide support during emergencies.
Drive the residence bus for outings.
Maintain a positive image of the residence through ongoing communication and networking in the community.
Other duties as assigned or requested.
Performance Requirements:
Attend all in-service education relevant to position.
Effectively interact with multiple internal/external stakeholders, including the public, and manage stressful situations with empathy and respect.
Understands and practices the principles of excellent customer service and instills Signature Retirement Living’s mission, vision and values.
Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively within the team, with resident and families as well as other internal and external stakeholders.
Self-initiative, strong time management and organizational skills.
Clear Criminal Records Check.
Up to date immunizations.
Excellent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office.
Professional office, phone and email etiquette.
Enthusiastic with ability to motivate individuals and groups.
Ability to work with people who may have physical disabilities or cognitive impairments.
Understand and maintain confidentiality.
Education & Skills:
Post Secondary education in recreation/leisure program at a College level of certification is preferred.
Approximately 2-3 years of relevant experience.
Class 4 license.
Fitness training appropriate for seniors (ie. Can-Fit Pro) preferred, or willing to obtain.
Knowledgeable of health and safety regulations.
Experienced in seniors’ care, retirement living, supportive living or long term care.
Good verbal and written English skills.
Valid First Aid and CPR.
Working Environment, Special Skills and Physical Job Requirements:
Work in an environment where there are many distractions and attention is needed on numerous issues at a time.
Be flexible with schedules and assignments; some evenings and weekends may be required.
Fit to lead exercise class, push wheelchairs, and to carry equipment and move basic furniture such as chairs.
Able to handle stressful situations with empathy, demonstrate respect for others using tact, courtesy and diplomacy.
Well organized with attention to detail, ability to multi-task and respond to a variety of changing duties and routines.
Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Bending, stooping on a regular basis.
Push and/or pull wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds.

Pay: $21.49 per hour
