Reporting to the Mill Operations Manager, the Paper Mill Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing all aspects of paper production within the mill. As a visionary leader, you will leverage your expertise in operations, finance, and safety management to drive efficiency, maintain high-quality standards, and implement effective cost-control measures. Collaborating closely with department managers and cross- functional teams, you will ensure seamless coordination, foster continuous improvement, and align operational strategies with company goals.

In this role you can expect to

  • Guide and assist subordinates in troubleshooting production challenges, soliciting input from other mills and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with managers across departments, including Converting, Quality Assurance, Technical Control, and Maintenance, to optimize production processes.
  • Utilize control aids such as monthly operating reports, daily production reports, and quality assessments to track performance and drive improvements.
  • Analyze monthly cost data and performance metrics to improve cost control and management
  • Assist department managers in budget development and ensure operational adherence to budgeted efficiency, expenses, and material usage.
  • Solicit and evaluate cost reduction proposals from staff to maximize resource
  • Uphold and enhance safe work practices and procedures within the
  • Monitor department safety performance through daily communication, accident investigations, and regular safety reviews.
  • Actively participate in the Paper Mill Department Safety
  • Maintain high-quality standards by collaborating with the Quality & Product Development Manager to address current issues and trends.
  • Support the education of hourly and salaried employees to uphold quality assurance
  • Partner with Human Resources for union contract administration, grievances, employee selection, and performance
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, professional development, and operational
  • Lead long-term planning initiatives to improve productivity and reduce
  • Stay informed of Sales and Marketing needs to evaluate product modifications and new product
  • Oversee production trials and feasibility studies for operational

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical etc.), Pulp & Paper Science or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years experience leading an operational group in a manufacturing operation, preferably tissue paper manufacturing
  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills to coach, teach, and lead teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong presentation
  • Expertise in troubleshooting operational and technical
  • Ability to analyze costs, drive efficiency, and improve year-over-year
  • Strong understanding of tissue paper manufacturing and principles of
  • Familiarity with CMMS, SAP, Microsoft Office, and other relevant
  • Integrity, teamwork, accountability, problem-solving, and customer
  • Accomplished change agent with extensive experience in organizational change management
