The Company For nearly four decades, BCLC has delivered exceptional gambling entertainment for British Columbians. We operate national and provincial lotteries in partnership with 3500 retail partners, provide the games, technology & oversight to 37 brick & mortar casinos, and operate a safe secure and 100% legal online gambling presence PlayNow.com. In our recently completed fiscal year, BCLC generated a record $1.5 billion in net income to the Province of B.C. to support First Nations, host local governments, health care, education and community programs across the province.

Job Summary The QA Analyst 3 delivers efficient, effective, collaborative, and continuously improving testing and test artifacts, and is responsible for formulating, advocating, and implementing QA best practices across teams at BCLC. This role is responsible for helping plan and lead continuous improvement of our practice.

Key Accountabilities

  • Acts as a subject matter expert, (or technical lead) participating in QA road mapping, with a particular focus on helping implement contributions to organizational objectives.
  • Delivers improvements to the QA capability acting as a consultant across teams by sharing innovative ideas and assisting in their implementation. Examples of areas of improvement include framework roadwork ownership and advancement, continuously expanding automation footprint, implementing common metrics, and reporting and expanding pipeline readiness/participation, etc.
  • Takes a lead role in addressing complex technical challenges and handles escalations for major issues. Provides guidance and expert level solutions to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Leads test activities across teams, and directs and reports on overall activities, while removing roadblocks.
  • Collaborates with teams and stakeholders both inside and outside the capability to understand business requirements and to design, document, and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Serves as scrum master, administering QA owned technologies, T-Skilling, participating in committees, and helping team adapt to changing priorities.
  • Represents BCLC interests and maximizes value in interactions and strategic relationships with external stakeholders and partners.
  • Leads and supports process improvement initiatives to exceed expected QA accountabilities to benefit the team and/or QA capability.
  • Leads and guides QA activities across teams to achieve a greater goal.
  • Champions future growth by encouraging new approaches for more effective delivery of products.
  • Participates in or leads presentations about QA achievements and/or roadmap.
  • Acts as a delegate for their leader as required.

Qualifications A combination of education, experience, and demonstrated skills may be considered.

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline;
  • 4 to 6 years dedicated QA experience;
  • At least 5 years of dedicated, progressive experience – preferably across multiple organizations;
  • Assorted certifications (or demonstrated learnings) in QA technologies, best practices, and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge & Technical Skills

  • Enhanced knowledge and experience in testing and crafting best in class test artifacts (test cases, runs and defects) - can write artifacts quickly, while considering reusability, size, and audience. Experience advising team members and external teams on best practices in this area;
  • Enhanced knowledge and experience in common defect and test management systems. Experience using these tools to maximum effectiveness, preferably demonstrating experience with tool integration, reporting, administration, and clean-up;
  • Enhanced knowledge and experience in the following technologies;
  • Developing automated tests using industry standard technologies (API/Interface/Data);
  • Use of ancillary automation tools - e.g.; Code Management/Build Tools/Containers, etc.;
  • Utilizing CI/CD process and technologies and onboarding new products to the pipeline(s);
  • In-depth understanding of risk and can succinctly communicate risk of QA choices to management and steering/governance committees;
  • In-depth understanding of test metrics and how to apply them to address problem areas;
  • Advanced demonstration of upskilling and T-skilling and continuous growth;
  • Advanced technical writing skills, and able to write reports and document procedures;
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

  • Extensive demonstration of troubleshooting complex problems and analytical thinking with a focus on innovative solutions to increase team throughput, mitigate risk and reduce technical debt;
  • Advanced demonstration of collaboration and conflict management while resolving difficult, important and/or time sensitive problems;
  • Strong team player with intermediate to expert skills in facilitating and encouraging team collaboration.

  • Understanding of Agile methodology or experience working with a cross-functional team environment would be an asset;
