Overview of the team and role:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Taxation, the Manager, Taxation will serve a critical role within the tax department of George Weston Limited, which provides corporate tax services to George Weston, Loblaw and Choice Properties REIT. The successful candidate will be responsible for Canadian tax advisory and Canadian tax reporting obligations of the Lifemark group of companies owned by Loblaw, and will work closely with key internal partners across the group of companies, fellow tax professionals at George Weston, and external service providers when carrying out these responsibilities. The Manager, Taxation will be joining a dynamic and collaborative tax department, focused on talent development through engaging and industry-leading projects, peer-to-peer training, and a commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the tax reporting cycle for the Lifemark group of companies including the tax provision, government tax returns, book-to-file review, and tax audits.
- Perform and manage tax due diligence engagements for acquisitions, including tax structuring advice and post-acquisition transition support.
- Oversee the Lifemark corporate organizational structure, identifying strategic tax initiatives and legal entity optimization opportunities.
- Determine and maintain key tax attributes, including adjusted cost base, paid up capital, and safe income.
- Provide Canadian corporate income tax advice on day-to-day business matters.
Qualifications:

Designated Chartered Professional Accountant or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of tax experience.

Completed or working towards CPA In-Depth Tax Program or equivalent (e.g. Master of Taxation Degree).

Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.

Ability to multitask and see projects to completion.

Team player with exceptional communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with peers and colleagues to deliver results.

Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Recent tax advisory experience in public accounting
- CCPC tax knowledge and/or experience an asset
