The Mine Practical Trainer will report to the Mine Training Coordinator.

This position is located in Lanigan, Saskatchewan and is not available for remote work.

What you will do:

The Mine Practical Trainer is involved in numerous training functions, including but not limited to:

  • Primary focus on Borer training
  • In consultation with the Training Department and Mine Department, participate in training needs analysis by staying current with changes in regulations, process changes, design modifications, etc. and integrate into existing training material/processes
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of training programs
  • Deliver training to both hourly and staff employees, including “in-the-classroom” settings and “on-the-job” practical training
  • Provide hands-on training for new employees so they can perform various job functions safely, such as operating various types of mobile and other equipment
  • Instruct operator proficiency in pre-checks, inspections, operating functions and operating maintenance, safe operating techniques, and practical skills on mine equipment
  • Instruct and enforce safe methods and procedures for doing work
  • Contribute to developing our Culture of Care through demonstrating positive safety behavior and safety guidance
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance and training results; monitor the performance of new probationary employees and provide feedback to supervision and administration
  • Utilize computer training programs (i.e., SuccessFactors/myHR) to access, maintain, and administer training material and employee training records
  • Develop relationships through collaborative interactions to ensure effective training, safe operation, and efficient utilization of resources
  • Contribute to department and site results by understanding and demonstrating your role within the team
  • Potential to assist Surface Training Team when needed

What you will bring:

  • Grade 12 education or GED
  • Must obtain a Saskatchewan Mines Branch Supervisory ticket
  • Must possess a good knowledge of mine operation and maintenance techniques, as well as experience in the operation of mobile equipment
  • Preference will be given to candidates with potash mining experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in operation of some or all PMP, Sandvik and Marietta mining machines
  • Previous supervisor experience is considered an asset
  • An approachable manner that encourages employees and supervisors to seek you out as a subject matter expert
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills are essential
  • Thorough computer skills, or the willingness to learn, including the use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Willingness to learn and gain adequate knowledge and experience through training
  • Willingness to adjust schedule and plans to meet training demands and achieve results
