Parkland School Division (PSD) has a unique Mental Health Capacity Building - Program Manager (MHCB) opportunity in the close-knit rural community of Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, at the Athabasca Delta Community School. The MHCB initiative is funded and led by Recovery Alberta (previously Alberta Health Services) but is overseen by Parkland School Division.
In this role, you will support programming to increase mental health knowledge, skills and behaviors that bolster protective factors in children and youth so they can achieve the best possible health outcomes across their lifespan. Through year round, group programming, based on research and best practice, MHCB promotes mental, emotional, and social well-being, and protects against negative outcomes by building resilience through skill development for students and families in the communities where they live.
Who We're Looking For?
We are seeking a skilled, professional Program Manager to lead the Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) Initiative in our school community. This role is central to ensuring high-quality mental health promotion and prevention programming, and requires effective staff supervision and strong partnerships with the school, agencies, and health service providers.
As the MHCB Program Manager, you will support the overall vision and goals of the MHCB Initiative while managing daily operations, resources, and reporting obligations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading the development and implementation of a service plan aligned with MHCB objectives.
- Providing guidance, support, and supervision to MHCB staff, including performance oversight.
- Ensuring high-quality, consistent delivery of programs and services
- Building and maintaining partnerships with school administration, community agencies, and stakeholders.
- Managing the program’s budget with accountability and transparency.
- Overseeing the completion and submission of all required reports and evaluations to Recovery Alberta.
- Coordinating events and initiatives that promote mental health awareness, such as Mental Health Week.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation (Health Information Act, Access to Information Act, Protection of Privacy Act) and Recovery Alberta policies.
- Delivering or supporting presentations and community programming as needed, including making appropriate referrals.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A related post-secondary degree or diploma in social sciences, or a combination of relevant coursework and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in addiction and mental health; background in health promotion or prevention is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of mental health, wellness, child/youth development, and health promotion principles.
- Effective communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build community partnerships.
- Experience with program planning and implementation.
- Able to work independently, manage priorities, and maintain professional boundaries.
- Leadership experience, including supervision and staff support.
- Budget and resource management skills.
- Technologically proficient and familiarity with social media tools is an asset.
- Resilient, self-aware, and committed to personal and professional development.
- Awareness of the local community’s cultural, economic, and political context.
Equivalencies will be considered.
This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check.
This is a temporary, non-union, for a 1-year (12-month) term position beginning September 2025.
Hours of Work: 40 hrs/week
Pay Rate: Remuneration will be commensurate with funding parameters and the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. Compensation range begins at $80,000, inclusive of all applicable Northern Living Allowances.
