About BCFNJC:
Empowered by the First Nations Leadership Council and in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, the BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) is responsible to 204 First Nations in BC. Our mandate is to reduce the overrepresentation of First Nations Métis and Inuit people in the criminal justice system and the child protection system, and to support Nations as they move to sovereignty over justice.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the ()Accounts Payable (AP) Manager will be responsible to lead all accounts payable activities at BCFNJC. The AP Manager will also take full ownership of training, supporting, and mentoring members of their team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the A/P process, including vendor set up and management of regular payment processes (Wire, ACH, EFT, cheques).
  • Manage Accounts Payable team by recruiting, coaching, developing, and supporting employees.
  • Effectively manage overall resources and adjust as required.
  • Help improve efficiencies by creating/implementing policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Bank & credit card reconciliations
  • Communicates as required with internal and external partners regarding all transactional services provided by the department.
  • Prepare monthly, weekly, and yearly reports (AP aging and other KPIs as required).
  • Manages and co-ordinates record retention.
  • Contribute to the annual audit process.
  • Reviews and follows all procedures & policies and recommends updates to documentation accordingly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Work Experience:

  • Certified Accountant (CPA, CAFM or equivalent) designation or in progress
  • A minimum of 5 years of AP experience and leading teams.
  • Experience reporting to a non-profit board
  • Experience with First Nations practices and culture
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, payables systems, reconciliation and automated approval workflows
  • Process and automation experience and skills including process analysis and change, process measurement, and continuous improvement methodology
  • Proficient in MS Office programs including Word and Outlook, with advanced skills in MS Excel
  • Effective leadership & supervisory experience; ability to lead, coach and direct staff, caseload management, and maintaining timekeeping systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment and support remote teams.
  • Ability to foster relationships and build rapport while creating/maintaining a culturally safe environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of professionalism with tact and good judgment in dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and take initiative.
  • Strong presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way and tailor key messages and presentation styles to multiple audiences.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be a condition of employment.

Location: Remote or Hybrid BC

Pay Range: $75,000 to $90,000 annually
