We are currently recruiting for the following role in our Calgary office:

Coordinator, Professional Development Essential Functions Training / Onboarding:

  • Coordinate the planning, organization and execution of Alberta Student onboarding & training (Articling students, Summer students, and Clerks & other unique students)
  • Coordinate the planning, organization and execution of the annual Alberta New Associate Training sessions

Feedback & Reviews

  • Organize and manage student feedback and review cycles in Vi and provide assistance to the Student Director as required
  • Organize and manage the Alberta Associate Review Processes (mid-year and year-end) in Vi and provide assistance to the PD Director as required

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

  • Provide support to the Directors in planning & organizing the Student and the Lawyer Bennett Jones Academy sessions and researching external professional development opportunities
  • Utilization of various firm software tools and coordination with other firm departments in relation to execution of PD learning events
  • Coordination of various firm and lawyer memberships, subscriptions, and external CPD registrations

Other General Functions

  • Liaise with Law Society of Alberta regarding Change in Particulars and Enrollment in the LSA, and liase with extra-provincial Law Societies as necessary (including enrollment and CPD requirements)
  • Lead the Firm's payment of annual Law Society of Alberta and ALIA fees
  • Tracking all Alberta Lawyer annual mandatory CPD filings and assistance with ensuring universal completion of same
  • Assisting with various data reports as instructed by the Directors
  • Ongoing daily support of the Directors' responsibilities and other projects and duties as assigned
  • Various accounting and budget related tasks
  • Coordination of various tasks and activities with PD & Student Teams in other offices
  • Assistance with Student Recruitment related processes as needed
  • Ensuring current knowledge and utilization of various firm software tools and updates

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of law firm experience is strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Superior technical knowledge of Microsoft Office and an overall tech savvy nature.
  • Exhibits a strong work ethic with the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Displays professionalism and has highly developed interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to problem solving
  • A team player who contributes to the cohesiveness of the Student & Professional Development Department
  • Self-starter with excellent attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Responsive to the needs of the students, lawyers and other members of the firm in a timely manner
  • Flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment while juggling conflicting priorities
