Position Overview

Police Support Services is seeking to hire a regular full-time Crime Analyst to join their team.

Responsibilities

In this position, you will perform complex and specialized statistical and analytical work to support criminal investigations and the development of crime reduction strategies. You will collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret a wide variety of investigative and intelligence data and information; monitor and identify crime patterns, trends and other factors; participate and provide analytical support in the development of projects and programs; prepare statistics, maps and graphic presentations; and, evaluate and validate intelligence information. In addition, you will perform telecommunications analysis and data mining research tasks to identify and monitor emerging and persistent crime trends and factors; prepare reports and recommendations for implementing strategies; deliver presentations and briefings; and liaise with a variety of contacts.

Requirements

The candidate will possess the following:

  • A university degree in criminology, economics, statistics or other related discipline

  • Considerable knowledge of research, statistical and analytical practices, procedures, methods and techniques.

  • Minimum one year experience working as a Crime Analyst (in at least one of the following: crime, tactical, operational, strategic), including researching, collecting, evaluating and analyzing information to provide to decision makers

  • Sound knowledge of the criminal justice system and related experience as it applies to a policing environment.

  • In-depth experience working with relevant software (i2 Analyst Notebook, iBase, CAST, specialized mapping software and, Microsoft Office)

  • Superior communication skills with the ability to work as a team or with minimal supervision

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and prioritize tasks accordingly

Compensation

$46.07 to $54.44 per hour

(Pay Grade 26 – January 2024 rates)

Hours of Work

Any 8 consecutive hours exclusive of a one hour unpaid meal break between the hours of 6:00am – 11:00pm, any five consecutive days of seven. The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Top Secret Security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.
