About the role
M-D Canada is seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our Operations team. The Manufacturing Process Engineer plays a key role in planning, optimizing, and supporting production processes within the Fabrication and Vinyl Extrusion departments. This position combines hands-on floor support with a strong focus on process improvement, quality enhancement, and lean manufacturing principles. The Engineer will collaborate across departments, step in as a temporary supervisor when needed, and drive initiatives that ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective operations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage daily and weekly job schedules in partnership with production supervisors.
- Plan and release internal and subcontract jobs based on material availability and production capacity.
- Collaborate with inventory and procurement teams to ensure raw materials are available and production ready.
- Provide hands-on support on the production floor, assisting with troubleshooting and improving process flow.
- Serve as acting supervisor during departmental lead absences to ensure operational continuity and productivity.
- Maintain open communication with operators and support staff to ensure alignment with production goals.
- Analyze and optimize existing manufacturing workflows, particularly in Fabrication and Vinyl Extrusion areas.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing projects.
- Identify production bottlenecks and recommend changes to layouts or equipment to improve throughput and efficiency.
- Maintain and update production documentation, including BOMs, work instructions, process standards, and SolidWorks drawings.
- Support internal audits and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action plans.
- Develop Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and control plans to mitigate manufacturing risks.
- Participate in cost-saving and scrap-reduction initiatives.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to support data-driven decision-making.
- Promote and ensure compliance with all safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and experience reading technical drawings.
- Understanding of OSHA safety standards and commitment to workplace safety.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
- Ability to interpret and update BOMs, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Ability to work on-site in a manufacturing environment, with occasional standing, walking, or lifting as required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, procurement, and engineering teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
- Ability to interpret and update BOMs, work instructions, and process documentation.
