Job Description:

  • Reception duties at dry Shelter- meet visitors & direct to proper department.

  • Maintain logbooks and complete occurrence incident reports UpToDate.

  • Protection services officer will assign and work at Mat program & Shelter to ensure all criteria for each Shelter is followed.

  • Understand and is aware of emergency/disaster procedures.

  • Waste removal handled in safe and secure manner takeout garbage’s from mat program and shelters.

  • Outside garbage cans Change the bag and replace with new garbage bag.

  • Remove any ice and snow from sidewalk, exit doors around the building.

  • In winter sanded and salted all exit doors and sidewalk.

  • In summertime sweep all parking lot and use a power wash to clean the parking area.

  • Wash and clean salvation army vehicle.

  • May assist with the bread/sweets run from Thickwood Sobeys, Save on foods, and downtown Sobeys weekday and weekend.

  • local stores to the Centre in the absence of the Facilities Operator Assistant.

  • Pickup a hamper food from Thickwood Sobeys to family services.

  • Pickup and drop off the black box from shelter and administration office to accounting office at the church.

  • Loading & unloading furniture pallets from the truck and drive to pickup and drop-off donations from different locations.

  • Provide security safety to all staff including Thrift Store customers & clients.

  • Assist Thrift store and family services staff in getting out shoplifters from the store.

  • Accept Thrift Store donations during/after hours.

  • Provide security at Soup Kitchens everyday 11:30 – 13:00 hrs and Diner 16:30-18:00hrs also breakfast 06:30-09:00hrs stand by the door monitor and observe all patrons entering the dining room.

  • Assist Facilities Operator Manager/Maintenance Assistant with duties in all salvation army properties, when required.

  • In keeping with OH&S regulations, ensure all obstructions are removed from doors & pathways/ documenting for OH&S committee, as necessary.

  • Protection officers required to do exterior patrol ever two hours around the building and conduct a regular building patrol every hour.

  • Protection officers is responsible to open the mat program entrance door using staircases every time when clients came in.

  • Protection services officer is responsible for searching each individual as they came in.

  • Protection officer may assist a support worker by lifting a heavy client bin in the rack.

  • Help and support other staff with any conflict or disturbance while in the shift.

  • Deal in a professional manner with shelter individual who are under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

  • Other duties as required.

  • Work Environment:

  • Most times other staff will be present

  • Will deal with Shelter individuals who are under the influence of alcohol and drugs

  • Will encounter angry individuals/verbally abusive

  • Will encounter those who have alternative lifestyles

  • Exposure to infectious diseases

  • Exposure to bodily fluids

  • Exposure to sharp objects and other dangerous items

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Governance Boards and Councils:

Internal:

  • Maintain communications with Facilities Manager and Team Lead

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports to Facilities Manager

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work Indoor and outdoor
  • Will work with clients who may be aggressive, sick and/or under the influences of drugs and alcohol.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma
  • A current Security Services License as per Alberta Legislation
  • First Aid/CPR Certification

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of security experience

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training & understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Policies & Emergency Preparedness would be an asset

  • Good verbal & written communication skills

  • Capable of lifting 50+ lbs & in good physical health

  • Valid Driver’s License- Class 5

  • Clean abstract & Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector upon hire

This is a six-month fixed term contract.
Schedule is 40 hours per week.
Pay rate: $24 per hour.
This position is eligible for Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $21.99 to $27.49 with a maximum of $32.99.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
