Job Description The Specialist II, Electrical is responsible for executing Electrical Systems engineering assignments on new construction projects at Seaspan Shipyards. Under the direction of the Manager, Electrical Systems, or their delegate, the Electrical Systems Engineer participates in all phases of new construction design projects including requirements decomposition, design preparations, supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, BC V7P 2R2 What You'll Do
- Provides engineering and design support in assigned areas of Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation Systems by preparing design and calculation packages to ensure contract design requirements are met.
- Develops design documents such as Instrumentation and Controls Lists, Interface control diagrams, termination and wiring diagrams.
- Performs trade studies both formal and informal to determine the most efficient solutions to engineering problems and meet material budgets for systems assigned. Finds opportunities to reduce material costs below budget.
- Develops material specifications and bills of material in accordance with Seaspan material strategies and customer requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers and supply chain to receive, approve and integrate technical and commercial information to support detail design and supply chain and adhere to the overall schedule.
- Ensure quality of design products and compliance to specifications.
- Follow discipline-specific standards .
What You'll Bring
- Master’s degree in engineering or a relevant discipline is required.
- Engineer In Training (EIT) designation with a recognized, accredited institution preferred.
- 2+ years of progressively senior experience in Engineering.
- Knowledge of ship/maritime systems.
- Experience working with a diversely integrated project team is considered an asset.
- Technical knowledge and electrical engineering.
- Above average analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
- Previous experience using Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Purchasing and Management systems.
- Committed to a high standard of safety and able to align with all safety laws and all of the employer's safety policies and rules.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Availability and willingness to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the employer determines is vital or desirable to meet its business needs.
- Demonstrated effective leadership and influence skills and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems.
- Provides mentoring and technical advice to subordinate Engineers in the department
- Exercise good judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the crucial job functions.
- PC proficiency required. Solid understanding of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
