We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto offices. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.
Role Overview The role is focused on the origination, structuring, underwriting, and execution of CMHC-insured and conventional construction and term loans, with a primary emphasis on the multifamily asset class across Eastern Canada. It plays a critical part in expanding the commercial real estate lending portfolio by leveraging broker relationships and identifying new business opportunities. This position is responsible for preparing and presenting detailed credit applications, ensuring alignment with internal risk appetite and regulatory standards. It also involves leading a team of Real Estate Associates, Analysts, and Coordinators, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
The role requires strong commercial real estate underwriting capabilities, a deep understanding of AML and KYC compliance, and the ability to manage complex transactions from origination through funding and portfolio monitoring. Bilingual proficiency in French and English is essential, as the role supports a diverse client base across Eastern Canada. This is a strategic, client-facing position that combines credit expertise with business development acumen to support the continued growth of the lending platform.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in CMHC-insured construction and term loans.
- Proven expertise in originating, structuring, underwriting, and executing conventional construction and bridge loans, especially in the multifamily asset class.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration; MBA or relevant professional designations (CPA, CFA, CMA) are strong assets.
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English (oral and written) is essential.
- Strong commercial real estate underwriting and portfolio management skills.
- Solid understanding of AML and KYC requirements in commercial real estate financing.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build client relationships and drive business growth.
About The Day-to-day
- Originate and underwrite CMHC-insured and conventional loan proposals for construction and term mortgages—primarily sourced through strong broker relationships.
- Prepare and present internal credit applications to Peoples Trust’s Credit Committee, ensuring thorough analysis and alignment with risk appetite.
- Lead and mentor a team of Real Estate Associates, Analysts, and Coordinators, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
- Coordinate funding activities by working closely with the commercial mortgage funding team and external legal counsel to ensure timely and seamless closings.
- Monitor portfolio performance in partnership with the Credit team, and assist in resolving complex loan situations with strategic insight.
- Drive business development through proactive marketing and relationship-building to grow the CMHC and conventional loan portfolio across Eastern Canada.

About The Work Environment Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.
