BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is seeking temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE**) Faculty, Electrical.** BCIT is one of the leading Electrical Training Centres in North America. The Electrical Trades program is delivered by a dynamic, fast-growing, team oriented department, which is currently accepting applications for regular, full-time Instructors in our Construction and Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship and Electrical Foundation programs. Please note***:*** This opportunity does have the potential of leading to full-time employment once the successful candidate has successfully completed a probationary period. Initial contract is for 3 months.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES**:**
- Instruction to apprenticeship including Construction Electrician and Industrial Electrician, Electrical Foundation, and/or part-time/industry service students
- Preparing and presenting classroom lectures Shop and lab instruction
- Instructional counseling and evaluation
- Administrative responsibilities, including examination marking, and student evaluation, curriculum development and program enhancement
- Administrative processes required to ensure appropriate resources are in place to deliver training
- Input into development of modifications to workshop and instructional areas.
- Other duties directly related to the instruction of trades and vocational programs;
- Working collectively with the Electrical Trades Department Head
The position is not just about teaching electrical concepts. It also requires a person willing to:

Teach employability skills and assist with time management, and

Spend the extra effort with students who are struggling, and challenge the students who are excelling.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS**:**
-
BC Trades Certificate of Qualification with Inter-Provincial Red Seal in Construction Electrician and/or Industrial Electrician
-
A minimum of five years’ current work experience as a journeyperson
-
Must have supervisory experience
-
Previous teaching experience is an asset
-
Experience with programming and troubleshooting programable logic controllers PLC is an asset
-
Experience with electronics, instrumentation and motor control preferred
-
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to instruct the entire curriculum from Foundation to Level 4
-
Effective interpersonal skills and a strong desire to teach
-
Experience working with apprentices in a supervisory role
-
Effective command of the English language, both written and oral
-
Field Safety Representative (FSR) certification would be preferred
-
Completion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma Program preferred
-
A proven record of professional development to stay current with new technologies and industry practices and a strong desire to maintain this currency.
-
Good hands-on skills and experience maintaining and repairing electrical equipment
-
Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise – Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office applications, and internet applications, with particular emphasis on the ability to use spreadsheets and adobe applications.

Salary Range: $78,133 - $115,805 per annum.
