About the role
Heritage Family Services is hiring full-time Child and Youth Care Workers for our Stabilization and Secure Program in Red Deer, Alberta. This position follows a 4 days on / 2 days off rotation, with 8-hour shifts.
We are seeking compassionate and dependable individuals who are often recognized as trustworthy, organized, and outgoing. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster positive, trauma-informed relationships with children and youth in care.
Key Responsibilities:
Build meaningful, respectful connections with youth and recognize their individuality
Promote safety and structure by discouraging elopement and adhering to the agency’s security protocols as outlined in the policy manual
Deliver structured routines and youth-driven activities
Assist with meal preparation and support daily living routines
Encourage positive self-image and celebrate individual identity
Advocate for each youth’s needs, including access to the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate
Foster an emotionally safe and supportive environment based on each youth’s emotional needs
Guide youth in developing essential life skills such as emotional regulation, cognitive flexibility, and social reasoning
Requirements and Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Completion of, or enrollment in, a Social Work or Human Services-related post-secondary program is an asset
Understanding and respect for Indigenous culture, practices, and values in caregiving
Inclusive mindset with the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and sexual orientations; familiarity with inclusive language and pronouns is preferred
Strong cross-cultural communication skills and the ability to support marginalized populations effectively
Successful applicants must complete pre-employment checks including: Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector), Child Intervention Check, proof of vaccination, and a current Driver’s Abstract
Mandatory Requirements:
If you are selected as the successful candidate, you will be required to provide the following documents as a condition of employment upon receiving the job offer
A Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector) that is dated within the last 6 months
A Child Intervention Check that is dated within the last 6 months
Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
Class 5 Alberta Government Issued Driver’s License
A Driver's Abstract that is dated within the last 6 months
Copy of education listed in resume.
