About the role
As part of the Community Nutrition Program the Dietitian will be responsible for educating the public and members of the health care team on current evidence based nutrition information, preparing and delivering group nutrition classes, providing current evidence based nutrition counseling, collaborating within the health care team, responding to community needs as appropriate, developing and revising public health resources, fulfilling professional responsibilities and performing other related duties as required.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Providing nutrition screening, assessment, and counselling for clients including women in high risk pregnancies, infants and children with dietary concerns;
- Conducting home visits as appropriate;
- Educating the public and other members of the health care team on current, evidence-based nutrition information;
- Working in collaboration with the health care team such as physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals;
- Participating in working groups for program development;
- Participating in meetings and committees as required;
- Supervising and evaluating dietetic internship students;
- Responding to community needs through the organization, preparation, and delivery of group nutrition classes in the area of health promotion and illness prevention including prenatal classes;
- Maintaining accurate and current client records;
- Drafting correspondence and reports for physicians;
- Development and revision of public health resources; and other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The successful applicant must a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Nutrition from an approved academic institution.
- Must have completed a dietetic internship program accredited by PDEP (Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice).
- Applicants must be registered with the College of Dietitians of Prince Edward Island and be eligible for membership with Dietitians of Canada.
- Must have considerable experience as a practicing Registered Dietitian.
- Experience in nutrition assessment and counselling methods, such as the Higgins Method, is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to make recommendations based on current evidence-based guidelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency working in a computerized environment.
- Good previous attendance and work record.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Other Qualifications:
- Experience working with high risk prenatal, pediatric, and complex needs populations would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated familiarity with revising and developing resources for Health PEI would be considered an asset.
- Additional relevant education and training will be considered an asset.
