About the Role
We are looking for an equity-based fractional Chief Product Officer (CPO) to lead our hardware product strategy and manufacturing innovation. As a senior executive, you will be responsible for driving the end-to-end product lifecycle, from concept to commercial launch, and aligning product development with sustainable manufacturing, engineering, and market needs.
You will play a key role in building and scaling our smart, energy-efficient product line and manufacturing operations in Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product vision, strategy, and roadmap for hardware and IoT-based smart tech products
- Oversee the full product development cycle: design, prototyping, validation, production, and go-to-market
- Build and manage relationships with component suppliers, manufacturers, and R&D partners
- Work closely with engineering, design, and operations to ensure manufacturability and quality
- Set product standards for sustainability, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance
- Analyze market and customer data to guide innovation, pricing, and product differentiation
- Implement scalable manufacturing strategies, including in-house and contract manufacturing
- Develop and mentor a cross-functional product & hardware team
- Drive cost optimization, margin improvement, and time-to-market efficiency
Qualifications
- 10+ years of product leadership in hardware manufacturing, smart devices, or green electronics
- Strong knowledge of IoT, embedded systems, and product design for manufacturing (DFM)
- Experience working with electronics manufacturing services (EMS), prototyping tools, and supply chains
- Demonstrated success in launching physical products at scale
- Familiarity with sustainability standards, energy efficiency certifications, and product lifecycle management
- Excellent leadership, technical, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Design, or a related technical field is required; a Master’s degree (M.Eng, MBA) is preferred

- Background in consumer electronics, smart home tech, or energy-saving devices
- Experience setting up or optimizing a domestic manufacturing facility
- Knowledge of low-volume, high-mix production strategies
