To support our firm’s growth and in continuous support of our mission, we are looking for a full-time Senior Accountant to join the team who will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of client records (according to IFRS/ASPE) as well as detailed review and approval of client month end reports and financial statements. The incumbent will also be responsible for mentoring and training accountants and bookkeepers, and for playing an integral role in implementing and using new technologies as part of our accounting ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight, management, and mentoring of team of accountants and associate accountants.
  • Project manage to ensure completion of month-end procedures and manage team and client checklists to ensure all deadlines are met
  • Detailed review of month-end reports and other associate accountant and accountant work.
  • Preparation of financial statements for both public and private entities, including audit supporting documents under IFRS/ASPE.
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate submission of financial statements, MD&A and government filings.
  • Preparation and/or review of monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end financial reporting packages.
  • Oversight of cash flow management, budgetary, control process, forecasts, etc.
  • Documentation, implementation and maintenance of appropriate internal controls, procedures, and processes (client and firm).
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, striving to exceed expectations, presenting deliverables, etc.
  • Partnering with client executive teams on all operational and strategic issues as they arise.
  • Managing relationships with investors, banks, and other stakeholders.
  • Implementation and maintenance of appropriate internal controls and procedures.
  • Coordination and communication with clients’ public accountants/auditors.
  • We are a busy team, and we help each other where necessary. This role requires the ability to roll-up sleeves whenever necessary to ensure success. This may include performing administrative, record-keeping, invoicing, payables, and other similar tasks.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of CPA, CA designation.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of accounting experience (audit, or financial reporting preferred).
  • Strong people skills and a team-player mindset are essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptable. Ability to work in changing/growing environments, multitask and prioritize.
  • Strong time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently with very strong attention to detail.
  • Motivated, eager to take on responsibilities and ownership of work.
  • Possesses a continuous learning and skills improvement mentality.
  • Deliver on commitments. Ability to set and deliver on clear objectives and goals.
  • Mentoring experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASPE and IFRS Reporting.
  • Familiarity with CRA requirements and filings are a plus.
  • Experience with cloud accounting software an asset (QBO/Xero and API ecosystems)
