Gin Making Workshop Instructor & Tour Guide (Part-Time)

We're looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable individuals to join our team as a Gin Making Workshop Instructor & Tour Guide. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys sharing their expertise, thrives in an interactive environment, and is looking for a flexible, rewarding part-time opportunity.
As an instructor, you'll lead groups of up to 24 participants through the exciting process of crafting their own gin from scratch. Don't worry if you've never distilled, training comes along with the job! You'll also be a key part of our daily and weekly operations by conducting engaging tours of our facility and representing us at local markets. Our unique facility, a heritage-converted army stables, offers a rich backdrop, and we particularly welcome applicants with a military background who can connect with and share in its history.
Key Role Responsibilities:
- Teach Gin-Making Classes: Lead guests through the process of using provided starter recipes to create a recipe for their custom gin.
- Distillation Guidance: Set up each still with guests, and explain the distillation process, ensuring students understand the role of each step in transforming raw ingredients into high-quality gin.
- Interactive Teaching: Create an engaging learning environment, answering questions, offering insight into techniques, and fostering curiosity about the distillation process.
- Safety and Best Practices: Ensure guests are educated on and follow proper safety protocols, especially regarding distillation equipment and alcohol production.
- Provide Hands-On Support: Actively guide guests throughout the class, offering personalized assistance as they work through recipe design, distillation setup, and monitoring of their batches.
- Explain Key Concepts: Offer the public a greater insight into the key concepts of distillation and gin-making. Complex concepts should be explained in a simple and concise manner, that is easy for all to understand.
- Execute Key Steps: You will be responsible for the final proofing of guest’s gins, as well as bottling and final touches. You should be confident doing quick calculations and using measuring tools (hydrometer, etc.).
- Clean-up & Maintenance: You will be responsible for setup and cleanup for each class. You should be familiar with basic cleaning duties, and inventory tracking to ensure we’re ready for the next class.
- Conduct Tours: Lead engaging daily and weekly tours of our facility, sharing information about our history, process, and products with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
- Represent at Local Markets: Attend local markets, engage with potential customers, answer questions, and promote our workshops and products. This may involve setting up and taking down displays.
Qualifications:
- Enthusiasm for Education: A genuine desire to share knowledge and create an enjoyable learning experience for participants of all ages.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand and engaging manner, suitable for diverse audiences.
- Passion for Craft Spirits: A genuine interest in the art of gin making and a passion for sharing that knowledge with others.
- Customer Service Oriented: Comfortable interacting with the public in various settings, including workshops, tours, and markets, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to manage group dynamics and ensure that each student has a fulfilling and educational experience, while also managing tour groups and market interactions effectively.
- Safety Conscious: Knowledge of safety protocols involved in distillation and handling of alcohol, and the ability to enforce these protocols with students and tour participants.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn new information about our products and processes to effectively conduct tours and represent us at markets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in teaching, leading workshops, public speaking, or instructing groups.
- Experience managing larger groups with confidence and charisma.
- Comfortable with basic calculations and using measuring tools.
- Retired military veterans are highly encouraged to apply, given our facility's heritage as converted military stables. Your experience and insights would be a valuable asset to our tours and storytelling.
Work Schedule:
This position requires availability to teach workshops as well as run tours with tastings on evenings and weekends, with each shift lasting approximately 4 to 8 hours including set up and clean up. Additionally, there will be opportunities for scheduled daily and weekly tours, as well as participation in local markets, which may vary based on demand and seasonality. Flexible scheduling may be available depending on the demand for classes, tours, and market events.
Compensation:
Hourly rate of $18-24/hour, plus tips (depending on experience).
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5 – 25 per week
Schedule:
