The Role
We are currently searching for a Category Buyer – Level 1, reporting to the Manager, Procurement. This is a full-time, 18-month contract opportunity. This role is responsible for leading SAP/P2P support, acting as the first point of contact for system troubleshooting, training, and process improvements across the business. It plays a key role in vendor management by measuring supplier performance and facilitating issue resolution through regular business reviews. As the procurement contact for assigned categories, the role manages end-to-end sourcing activities, including RFPs, supplier selection, and contract execution. Strong collaboration with internal stakeholders and a focus on cost savings, compliance, and continuous improvement are essential to success in this position.
Location
Our Corporate Office is located in Bolton, ON. We offer a hybrid work model with visits into the office a minimum of twice per week and on an as-needed basis depending on the role and function.
What You'll Be Doing
- Serve as the primary point of contact for SAP/P2P processes, including troubleshooting, user support, and system testing to ensure smooth procurement operations
- Maintain SAP master data, generate reports, and support business units with ad-hoc reporting and analysis to inform strategic purchasing decisions
- Support change management initiatives and provide SAP training to new users to promote consistent system use and compliance with internal policies
- Manage vendor relationships by tracking performance metrics (cost, quality, timelines), facilitating issue escalation, and conducting site visits where applicable
- Lead process improvement initiatives and cost-saving opportunities through vendor collaboration and continuous evaluation of supplier programs
- Act as the procurement lead for designated categories across TBS and BDL, coordinating supplier selection, RFPs, and sourcing strategies
- Partner with internal stakeholders and legal to support contract negotiations, development, and execution aligned with business needs
- Assist with audit preparation and resolution of invoicing issues to ensure compliance and financial accuracy
- Identify and implement alternate SAP solutions or supplier options to improve purchasing efficiency and support business continuity
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned
Who You Are - Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Education
- Post-Secondary School Education in Business or Supply Chain or related
- Certified Supply Chain Management Professional designation (CSCMP) is considered an asset
Experience
- 2-3 years of business experience spanning a broad range of commodities and services
- Minimum of 2 years of current SAP working experience
Skills
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams), and internet research tools
- High degree of judgment, initiative and tact
- Strong planning, organizational ability to prioritize tasks to ensure successful completion
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills to evaluate product(s) purchased and, in conjunction with suppliers, identify continuous improvement opportunities which will lead to lower total cost of ownership
- This position consists of a variety of tasks (multi-tasking), constant concentration to meet deadlines, multiple demands, interruptions and critical deadlines
- Self-motivated, self-reliant and takes ownership
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be liaison between procurement department customers and suppliers
- Demonstrated diplomacy and professionalism in all interactions, with the ability to effectively manage demanding or difficult situations
