Know our team
Nutrition International’s Programs Unit is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of Nutrition International’s core program interventions including program development, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting, and grant management, including setting annual operational planning, budgeting, and review processes. The unit comprises a global team of professionals located in our 10 core countries across Asia, Africa and our headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Governance Lead to be based in Ottawa, Canada working hybrid or remote in Canada.
About you
You are someone with an advanced degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Governance, Public Policy, International Development, or a related field. You have a minimum of 10 years of experience working in nutrition governance, policy development, or public health governance, ideally in low- and middle-income countries. You have excellent understanding of multi-sectoral governance, preferably in nutrition, including the development of nutrition-focused policies, plans and programs and a strong background working with multi-sectoral and high-level governance structures in nutrition or related sectors.
You have a track record in advancing the state-of-the-art in nutrition governance, through academic and other publications, public presentations, or other means and solid experience working with relevant regional or global organizations, such as development banks, RECs, and UN Agencies. Proven experience and recognized success in designing and delivering technical assistance to government institutions or other multi-stakeholder entities.
Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.
About the role
In this role you will:

Identify governance bottlenecks and needs, conducting situation analyses, and assessing the political economy, stakeholder landscape and other contextual factors.

Design multi-year nutrition governance agendas, and individual governance projects, and ensure governance is integrated in relevant NI initiatives, applying NI’s governance strategy, frameworks, and expertise, and ensuring an impact orientation.

Oversee the implementation and monitoring of nutrition governance projects, including the supervision of project teams, providing clear project direction, technical guidance, quality assurance and analysis of impact, to ensure high quality results.

Support the organization’s goals for equity across all programming areas, by ensuring NI’s governance projects reflect gender equality and inclusion principles.

Guide NI’s overall approach to nutrition governance, strengthening NI’s suite of governance tools, including strategic and analytical frameworks, methodologies, conceptual approaches and monitoring systems.

Drive organizational learning on nutrition governance, ensuring successes and learnings from NI projects are disseminated internally, as well as relevant developments in the field of Nutrition Governance.

Help position NI as a thought leader and trusted partner in nutrition governance by implementing a learning agenda that develops evidence-based publications, case studies, thought pieces and other analytical products for dissemination through academic and other forums and networks, and by fostering strategic relationships with key agencies, thinktanks, academia, and donors.

Support the growth of the nutrition governance portfolio, by advising on strategic trends, risks, and opportunities, identifying funding opportunities, and preparing concept notes and proposals.
Significant travel to countries in Asia and Africa will be required, with trips lasting up to 2 weeks, as well as occasional travel to Nutrition International Regional Offices in Nairobi, New Delhi and HQ in Ottawa.
