Duties and Responsibilities:
As a member of the Brandon University Food Service team, you will uphold high standards of quality and service as set by the Food Service Manager and Executive Chef. Responsibilities include providing effective one-on-one customer service, promoting the University’s food service image, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in customer areas. Tasks include handling station setup and takedown, communicating food needs to the cook, stocking food stations and fridges, and managing coffee service logistics, including cleanup. Duties also involve cleaning work areas and performing cash till duties. Key skills include excellent customer service, teamwork, efficient customer interaction, knowledge of kitchen layout and equipment (i.e., steam wells, coffee machines, toasters, etc.), and strong organizational abilities for multitasking and maintaining high service standards. Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, as well as related experience in food production and handling. Must have excellent customer service skills, cashier experience, knowledge of kitchen equipment and of cleaning chemicals. Must be able to lift up to 20 kilograms, follow oral and written instructions, and work quickly. Must present clean and tidy appearance and follow all Manitoba Health regulations concerning hair and dress. Safe Food Handling course (or willingness to take course) is required. The successful candidate must work well independently and in a team environment with a strong desire to succeed. A physical demands assessment will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
*NOTE*
This is a part-time, term position to August 31, 2026 and is subject to layoff or reduced hours during periods of slow activity with the possibility for yearly contract renewals. This position consists of four (4) weekend shifts in a 6- week period, with a total of 14 hours each weekend. Schedule is subject to change based on operational need.
This position is subject to a Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. These checks must be submitted in accordance with the Policy in order to maintain employment.
