About the role
We are looking for Staff Lawyer (hybrid, full time - one (1) permanent position) with a minimum of three (3) plus years of criminal law experience to join our team at the North Battleford Area Office. Why work for us?
Our lawyer competitive salary is in the range of $98,927.18 up to $203,233.84 based on years of relevant experience and Call to Bar years. - Conduct of assigned files to professional standards and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Legal Aid Saskatchewan & the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
- Conduct preliminary inquiries, pre-trials, case conferences, trials, reviews & appeals.
- Negotiate competent resolutions of files to achieve fair, early and lasting outcomes for clients.
- Represent clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas and remands both in-person and remotely.
- Work independently on cases as assigned by the Legal Director.
- Complete and accurate time entry and record keeping.
Position Requirements
- Experience in criminal law.
- Experience in family law.
- Law degree from a recognized law school.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
- Valid Driver’s License – Class 5.
- Technologically savvy with a keen enthusiasm for learning new systems including, computer literacy in MS Office, web-based legal research tools, and other web-based resources.
- Commitment to social justice and an understanding of the needs and challenges faced by low-income and marginalized communities.
- Demonstrated time management and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable criminal record check.

Duty counsel service is provided to in-custody clients, regardless of financial status, at all 74 Provincial Courthouses and circuit points. Legal advice through the Brydges Line is available to those arrested or detained, regardless of financial status. Summary advice and information may be provided to anyone by a Legal Aid Saskatchewan lawyer about a wide range of matters if they involve no more than a brief interview or telephone call.
